Show Notes;
10. South African Mastiff / Boerboel
At first glance, you might think the large, intimidating Boerboel would make an excellent guard dog, and you’d be correct, but this breed is equally known for being loving, calm, and family-friendly, especially towards human children. These gigantic protectors were bred to help farmers in South Africa defend their homesteads from hyenas, lions, and all manner of deadly wildlife while also providing invaluable companionship.
9. Brazilian Mastiff /Fila Brasileiro
The Fila Brasileiro is a courageous, powerful mastiff. It is amenable with its human family, making a very loyal loving companion. Extremely dedicated to his owner. A Fila will protect you without a moment’s hesitation. He feels that is why he is there. Once you bond with your Fila, you and your family will become his whole world.
8. Neapolitan Mastiff / Italian Mastiff
The Neapolitan Mastiff is one of the oldest breeds around and native to Italy. Although, their appearance might be a little imposing and they do make impressive watchdogs, they are known for their kind and affectionate natures. They are very large and heavy dogs and they boast a tremendous amount of loose skin around their faces and necks which combined to their ultra-droopy lips adds to the Neapolitan’s overall forbidding appearance.
7. Tibetan Mastiff
For centuries, these imposing dogs earned the reputation of being legendary guardians in their native Himalaya where they have always been highly prized. More recently, a Tibetan Mastiff was sold for a record price, making the dog the most expensive in the world. Today, these noble large dogs are still quite rarely seen in the UK, but the breed’s popularity is gaining momentum all thanks to the fact that Tibetan Mastiffs have such kind and loyal natures.
6. French Mastiff / Dogue de Bordeaux
The Dogue de Bordeaux is one of the most ancient breeds that’s native to France. They were originally bred to hunt large animals and were often used as fighting dogs back in the day. They are impressive looking with their very large, distinctive heads and although they are so big, they are extremely agile and quick on their feet when they need to be and as such a Dogue de Bordeaux is more than capable of jumping great heights which includes garden fences.
5. Japanese Mastiff / Tosa Inu
The Tosa is loyal, sensitive to the tone of one’s voice, paying close attention to commands. This is not a noisy breed. The Tosa was once used for dog fighting and was bred to fight quietly as Japanese dog fighting rules called for silence. This natural guard dog is protective, courageous and fearless.
4. English Mastiff
Mastiffs are large dogs known to be gentle giants. They are highly intelligent and calm by nature loving nothing more than to be in a home environment and involved in everything that goes on around them. They form extremely long bonds with their owners which in short means they thrive on human contact and as such are best suited to families where at least one person usually stays at home when everyone else is out of the house.
3. Argentinian Mastiff / Dogo Argentino
is a powerful, athletic, and loyal breed that is both a fierce hunter and a gentle protector of its human family. They have a high prey drive, a strong will, and, at times, a distrust of strangers and other animals, all of which require an experienced dog owner to handle the breed.
2. Italian Mastiff / Cane Corso
The Cane Corso is an impressive looking mastiff-type dog that’s native to Italy where they were originally bred to guard, herd and hunt, although they were also highly prized as companion dogs too. They are still a very popular choice in their native Italy thanks to their impressive looks and kind, loyal natures, but less popular here in the UK simply because the breed is less known in this part of the world.
1. Bullmastiff
Bullmastiffs are powerful looking dogs that are a result of crossing an Old English Mastiff with a Bulldog. Originally bred to help gamekeepers track down poachers, these large dogs have become popular companions not only here in the UK, but elsewhere in the world too. They are intelligent and alert characters making them easy to train, but they do like to know why they are doing anything which is something to bear in mind when training a Bullmastiff. They are known to be high-spirited and quickly become devoted members of a family always ready to protect the people they love and their property.

Snow Notes;
So round 1 kicks off as hard as I expected it to with a round that’s pretty much impossible for me to judge. But seen as we refuse to have draws on the UDC and my head is letting me down I’m going to have to go with my heart ion this one and give the round to the Doberman. But let me make it clear both can have superb temperaments when raised and trained by kind, loving and knowledgeable owners.
Another extremely close round here and most people agree both these dogs rank in the top 5 breeds in the world in this department but again most people agree that the German Shepherd has a very slight edge over the Doberman making this 1-1.
Easier round to judge here for the German Shepherd who takes a 2-1 lead.
Another super close round and another where most people agree these are both top 5 in the world breeds, both can and are used for all versions of protection, guarding, watch dog, military and police work and everyone tends to have there favourites in this field and if I was choosing for this purpose I would personally go with the Doberman even though I’m fully aware both are superb choices.
So it comes down to this… the last episode to crown the king on the subjective decision of which looks better. I’m going to rip this off like a plaster and choose the Doberman even though I adore the looks of both.
So taking the win and being crowned UDC season 1 king is the Doberman with a super close 3-2 win over the German Shepherd that could have easily gone either way depending on personal preferences.
I hope you enjoyed the last video guys, make sure you subscribe for season 2 of the UDC where I have some awesome things planned launching in a few days! If you did enjoy it make sure you click that like button and subscribe if you’re new around here. Let me know how you judged the fight in the comments section below and do you agree with my score of 3-2 to the Doberman!
