HOW TO UNDERSTAND YOUR CAT BETTER

How to understand your cat? 🐱 How to make friends with your cat? 😍 Everyone knows that cats are the most illogical and unpredictable pets. Just try to work out what’s going through that furry little head!

It turns out that cats have their own language, and if you learn it there’s a chance you’ll understand them much better. We’ve put together all of the possible cat behaviors to help you find a common language with your pet (well, if it allows you to).

Also, we’ve prepared three essential tips that will help you communicate with cats better.

HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR CAT
• How to make your cat trust you
Lowering your cat to the ground, make sure its paws have reached the floor. Your cat will trust you and know that it won’t tumble if you let it go.
• How to stroke your cat
If you sit on the floor with your legs crossed and look at your cat, it will interpret this as a friendly gesture and come up to you to let you stroke it.
Also, stretch your hand out in its direction. Your middle finger should be a little lower than the others. The cat will start rubbing its nose or face against your hand.
• How to make your cat appear
A cat may go and hide and only appear when it’s alone or hears a calm voice.

MAIN CAT GESTURES
• If a cat raises its nose up and throws its head, it’s saying, “I see you.” Cats often make this gesture to people walking past the window. Have you ever noticed it?
• A cat might press its ears against its head if it feels scared, worried, or wants to play. They also do this when they are sniffing something that’s interested them.
• When a cat sticks its tongue out slightly and licks itself, it’s worried or anxious.

CAT LANGUAGE
• Cats generally greet people or announce their presence with a short sound.
• Lengthy meowing indicates that your cat is very glad to see you. This occurs if you’re away from home for a long time.
• A medium-length meow might be a request for water or food.
• A long sound (a mix of purring and meowing) is a more insistent request or demand.
• A low meow is a complaint or indication of dissatisfaction. Also, it might mean your cat is ready to fight.
• A loud sound often indicates an urgent demand (for instance, you cat needs more food).
• A purring or vibrating sound indicates a desire for closer contact or attention. Cats purr for various reasons, but most often they do it when they are happy.

Now you know how to find a common language with any cat. By the way, are you a cat person or a dog person?

27 STRANGE Dog Behaviors Explained

Dogs have been man’s best friend for thousands of years, and yet it’s only recently that we’re really figuring out our best friend’s way of communicating with us. Our canine companions can understand so much of what we say to them, and they have their own way of letting us in turn, know what’s happening with them. Today we learn what our dog’s odd behaviours really mean.

11 – Haters gonna hate
If your dog exhibits love for people and not for other dogs, it could have a lot to do with how he was raised. Dogs that are raised in exclusively human environments often perceive other dogs as alien and tend to not know how to behave around them. If you’re thinking of getting a new pup, ensure you socialise them before they’re 3-months old, and it will prevent any negative behaviour as they grow older.

10 – Heavy Breather
Panting is normal behaviour in dogs, and most of the time the panting is primarily to keep themselves cool. Dogs don’t sweat as we do, so panting is the solution. But if you find the panting to be at odds with what you’re used to, it could be an indication of anxiety, stress, fear, illness or injury. Keep at eye on it and seek medical help if needed.

9 – Chasing Shadows
An animal expert believes that shadow chasing is ok up until a point. If you keep giving your dog positive attention for this behaviour, he will continue to do it. It could quickly turn from a game into something they can’t control, so it needs to be nipped in the bud quickly. Don’t reinforce the behaviour by showing positive acknowledgement and try to rather distract your canine friend from that behaviour.

8 – Smells Good
What is it with dogs and crotch sniffing? It’s a sure-fire way of having a visitor feel very awkward, but if you’re the visitor, it honestly doesn’t mean you smell. As humans, our crotch area does have higher levels of pheromones, and dogs sniff to understand their world, so it’s only logical that the first place they’ll head to is your crotch.

7 – Rear-Ended
Much like our highly scented crotch area, so is a dog’s rear-end which secretes a plethora of scents. With a dog’s incredible sense of smell, they’re quickly attracted to this area which gives them a great deal of information about the other hound. They can pick up the gender, reproductive status, diet and the general feeling of the dog – all from the rear-end. Dogs that spend a great deal of time sniffing each other out, tend to get along better in the long run.

6 – Underwear Thief
We’re on back to smells, and our underwear is the second-best option if there isn’t an available crotch around. Even after your undies have been through the washing machine, they still hold your scent, and as you know, dogs’ sniffers are thousands of times more powerful than ours. Your pooch will find comfort in your smell, which is often why they’re stealing your underwear! Of course, it’s not great for your underwear and not great if your dog is ripping them to shreds and swallowing the pieces.

5 – Getting Old
If your beloved companion has started snubbing your calls or doesn’t rush to the door to greet you like he once did, it’s possible that the behaviour can link directly to your friend getting old. As sad as what it is to consider, get him to the vet to start making his life a little more comfortable as he ages with grace.

4 – Lean on Me
There are 3 schools of thoughts when it comes to dogs leaning into you, and they’re as follows: Either she’s showing dominance, or she’s afraid, or she just genuinely loves you so much and wants to be as close to you as possible. We’re leaning towards option number 3.

3 – This Sucks
Many pups enjoy sucking on a blanket or on themselves just before bedtime, and this peculiar behaviour is called “flank sucking.” Although it’s not super serious, it should still be discouraged because they can eventually swallow bits of the blanket that they chewed on for so long, requiring surgery to remove.

2 – A bite to eat
If your dog is biting his paws, this is a sure sign that something is wrong. It could mean that your dog is struggling with a skin condition, an injury, a possible parasite or even arthritis. A vet visit is non-negotiable at this point.

SUMMARY:
– Cats have been domesticated for about 4,000 years! Before that, they were one of the greatest hunters feared by numerous species.
– A group of kittens is often called a kindle; a group of adult cats is called a clowder. A female cat is referred to as a queen, and a male cat is known as a tom.
– Cats only meow at humans. With other animals, they hiss, spit, and purr — but never meow. They also tend to greet each other by touching noses.
– The problem of acne is pretty common among cats. They usually end up developing blackheads on their chins, which is widely known as feline acne.
– Most cats tend to spend about two-thirds of their day sleeping. So the average 9-year-old cat has been fully awake for only 3 years of its life! Cats also spend about one-third of their waking hours cleaning themselves up.
– One of the reasons why cats clean themselves so often is to lick your scent off! When your cat rubs against you from nose to tail, it wants to mark you as its own.
– Cats have rather sensitive stomachs, so you should be very careful about your furry friend’s menu. Never give your cat onion, garlic, green tomatoes, chocolate, grapes, or raisins.
– Your cat always understands when you say its name…it just chooses to ignore you! Specialists believe this happens because, historically, cats haven’t been domesticated to listen to people’s orders — unlike dogs.
– A cat’s whiskers aren’t there to make them extra cute! They’re covered in numerous nerve cells and blood vessels.
– Cats have a special reflective layer in their eyes called the tapetum lucidum. This layer easily magnifies incoming light and allows cats to see around 6 times better than we do in the dark and low light.
– A cat’s heart beats way faster than ours with about 110 to 140 beats every single minute.
– A cat’s cerebral cortex contains 300 million neurons. Just for comparison, dogs have only around 160 million.
– It’s a natural instinct for a kitten to cover its poop. If your cat doesn’t do that, this is its way of showing you who’s the true head of the house.
– Back in 2007, a calico cat named Tama became a station master and greeted passengers at Kishi Station.
– Cats can easily jump about 6 times their own length! This is all thanks to the powerful muscles in their back legs, which allow them to jump onto any surface they like.
– Biologically, a cat’s brain is kinda similar to ours. We have almost identical brain regions that take care of our emotions, so there’s a chance that you and your furry friend feel the same way sometimes.
– In the cat world, the concept of left- or right-handedness is a thing too! Most cats are actually left-pawed!

20 Strange Cat Behaviors Explained!

18. Random sprint – Does your cat run at a super fast speed and bounce off the couch out of nowhere? Don’t worry this is totally normal; cats can run up to 31 miles per hour, they’re just getting their exercise in for the day! Most house cats have an extreme amount of energy that gets pent up and needs to be released. If they don’t get regular exercise on their own, they might need some more playful attention to avoid random sprints around the house.

17. Unladylike sitting – Why do people sit in unladylike positions? Well because it’s comfortable of course. Same goes for cats; when they are sprawled out with their legs open, that means they’re simply relaxed, trusting you, and happy. This means they know they are safe so they can relax.

16. Brings you presents- A dead rodent or bug at your feet might not be what you always wanted, but there are lots of theories about why your cat insists on doing this. As a kitten their mother might have brought them back a dead prey, so that’s where they got it from. Paying them more attention when they do this might be encouraging this behavior. Maybe they’re being generous and saying thank you for feeding her or maybe sharing a successful hunt with you. This is them sharing what they caught with you as if you were a part of its real cat family. When cats are able to get more food than they need to eat, they might bring back extra kills to other members of the colony, especially kittens and nursing mothers. So your cat might just think you could use some help having enough to eat. Although this is a gross habit from a human’s perspective, don’t punish your cat for doing something that is only natural to them, because they don’t know any better. Instead try keeping them indoors, or put a bell on their collar to make it more difficult for them to catch prey.

True Touch Review: Deshedding Pet Brush

True Touch is an As Seen on TV deshedding glove. Does it work better than a traditional pet brush? I put it to the test with three dogs and a cat.

I wouldn’t say it works better than a regular brush, but I seemed to have better luck than a few other reviewers out there.

Cat language 6:57
How to communicate with your cat better 8:09

Hit the like button for cats, and leave a short comment if you are in love with dogs!

11 Things Your Cat Doesn’t Like About You

Why is your cat sad or mad at you? If your cat isn’t happy, no one in the house is allowed to be either. Sometimes we cat owners, with all our affection and loyalty, actually do more harm than good. At least that’s what we recently learned, and we’re here to spread the message!

Did you know, for example, that most cats just hate strangers? They see any other creatures of their kind as competition for food, toys, and love. Or have you ever noticed they don’t like belly rubs? A cat’s stomach is its most vulnerable area, and protecting it is a basic instinct. So be gentle and respectful!

SUMMARY:
– Cats feel insecure when you pick them up and being hugged is like being trapped to them. It can easily cause stress or aggression, so think twice before expressing love the human way!
– If you don’t give your little one the attention or food they want when they want it, be prepared for constant meowing or pawing at your leg. Cats have their own schedule that you’ll never really understand, and they like to be the one to decide when it’s “play with human” time.
– Some cats are okay with their human clipping their nails, but most won’t have any of it! It’s an incredibly risky procedure, and their post-surgery wounds can easily get infected.
– It’s a universal truth that cats, with maybe a few rare exceptions, despise water. You see, your house cat’s ancestors lived in Europe, Africa, and China, where they weren’t exposed to much water. So, they didn’t have to learn how to deal with it.
– Cats are extremely territorial, and “your” home is actually your cat’s. And cats don’t like to leave their little kingdom, so a car ride can be emotionally stressful as well.
– You might love 4th of July fireworks, but your cat – not so much. They don’t like any loud noises, whether it be honking cars, the vacuum, hair dryer, and so on.
– Cats are way more like their ancestors that lived in the wild. Those kitties clearly didn’t like feeling something against their fur, restricting their freedom of movement.
– If you see knots or mats in your kitty’s hair, definitely get rid of those. You’ll save your cat from the pain and other nasty things that come with knots, such as fleas, ticks, and rashes.
– Even though cats meow at humans and not other cats, they don’t expect you to meow back! But if you try to meow back, your kitty will be really confused.

If Your Cat Acts Strangely, Don’t Worry. Here’s the Explanation!

“Cats live for themselves,” – Rudyard Kipling claimed. They aren’t inclined to become attached to others. Unlike dogs, which wag their tails and run up to you for a hug, cats are much more reserved. Their owners can only guess what their furry companions are feeling.
It’s time to decode all the hidden signals cats give out. If you think your pet acts strangely, don’t worry! Perhaps they just show you their love! So cross your fingers and watch the video until the end. There you will find a useful bonus – how to understand your cat’s emotions by its tail! Here we go: your cat truly loves you if…

TIMESTAMPS
If a cat purrs so much, you can’t sleep 0:49
If a cat follows you everywhere 1:26
If a cat nibbles your skin 1:51
If a cat sticks close to you and winds herself around your legs 2:19
If a cat bends the tip of her tail when she looks at you 2:44
If a cat has a staring contest with you 3:11
If a cat isn’t afraid to show his belly 3:46
If a cat brings you gifts 4:16
If a cat comes up close and face-to-face with you 4:45
If a cat gives you a massage 5:17
How to understand your cat’s emotion by its tail? 5:59

#catbehavior #understandcat #catlove

SUMMARY
– Purring is the way a cat expresses love! According to scientists, purring can also be a sign of worry or discomfort, but if your cat is purring by your side, you can be sure that they are expressing their attachment to you!
– If your cat is following you at your heels, it means she likes your company.
– If provoked when you play with him, the cat might start to chew lightly on the “opponent’s” hand. But this is just playful fighting.
– Cats are known for being possessive and jealous, but this is also how they demonstrate tenderness and attention.
– When your cat extends her tail straight up and bends only the tip, this is a sign of curiosity and friendly attitude towards you. Another explanation is that the cat feels particularly playful and wants to have some fun with you.
– Cats are a little like many men: if they can’t take their eyes off of you, it means they love you!
– Cats do this when they feel comfortable, content and happy. It may be as well an invitation to rub their tummy – a great gift to you in any cat’s opinion.
– Some people wake up to the variety of cat toys spread around on their bed. Others find “gifts” from cats, such as paper balls or sweets covers, in their boots. A few lucky ones get once-alive presents: mice, insects or baby-snakes.
– If your cat nestles his head against you, juts his forehead into your forehead, neck or leg, it’s a good sign! He is just showing that he considers you someone close to him.
– So why does your cat knead you? There might be two reasons: she is trying to find the most comfortable place to fall asleep or at least to arrange it. Or she is trying to tell you how happy she is to be with you and in this case the kneading is a sign of affection.
Tail straight up: your cat feels friendly, happy and content.
– Tail raised back at an angle: your cat feels unsure but not aggressive.
– Tail straight up, quivering: it is an excellent sign – your cat is happy to see you.
– Thrashing tail: it can mean several strong emotions, from strong interest and ecstasy from being petted to anger and aggression. You need to watch other body signs.
– Bristled tail: your cat is scared, sees some threat and is in defensively aggressive posture.
– Tail entwined around another cat, object or your hand; it’s an analogy of people’s hug – cats show their friendship this way!

How to read your cat 😺 Cat body language – decode your cat 🐱

Have you ever wondered what your cat is trying to say and decode their body language? Here we breakdown the basic tell signs and explain what they mean:

1. Meowing – Cats meow to each other as kittens but they stop when they become adults. The cat’s meow is her way of communicating with people. Each cat’s meow is individually tailored to her owner – so only you will be able to correctly guess what your cat wants.

2. Purring – When cats purr we presume that they are relaxed and happy. Whilst this is true 90% of the time; however cats also purr when they are anxious or stress to calm themselves down. It has been found that purring has certain health benefits and can promote bone and tissue regeneration.

3. Look into your cats eyes to see how they are feeling. If their pupils are dilated it means that their mental activity level is increased and they are focusing and ready to pounce. This could also mean that they aggressive. If the pupils are slit like it means that the cat is in vegetative, ambient or even predatory state. Semi closed eyes mean that the cat us in a more dozy, complacent mood and maybe ready for a nap. If the cat is slow- blinking at you – it is a sign of faith and trust.

4. Cats feel the world around them with their whiskers. If a cat’s whiskers are pulled back – cat is alarm. If whiskers are pointed sideways – cat is relaxed. If they point forward – a cat is excited and is looking for a prey.

5. Ears tell a lot – If cat’s ears are turned sideways or back – this cat is feeling nervous or anxious. Ears flat against the head is a sign that a cat is scared and feeling defensive or angry.

6. A tail tells all – An actively twitching tail means that a cat is uneasy or fed up. If the tail is thrashing – the cat is furious. An upright tail is a sign that they are social and happy to see you. Cats often sit with their tail wrapped around their body. It can be a defensive sign to tell others to stay away and confusingly it can also be a sign that a cat is relaxed.

7. When a cat is head butting they are marking you as “safe” to be around. Basically, if a cat head butts you, she is extremely content and greeting you with love and affection.

How to train a kitten to play gently – Cat training tips

Kittens are impossibly cute and playful–unless play results in bites and scratches. Here’s how to train your kitten to play gently, according to cat expert Dr. Katherine Miller of the ASPCA.
