HOW TO UNDERSTAND YOUR CAT BETTER

How to understand your cat? 🐱 How to make friends with your cat? 😍 Everyone knows that cats are the most illogical and unpredictable pets. Just try to work out what’s going through that furry little head!

It turns out that cats have their own language, and if you learn it there’s a chance you’ll understand them much better. We’ve put together all of the possible cat behaviors to help you find a common language with your pet (well, if it allows you to).

Also, we’ve prepared three essential tips that will help you communicate with cats better.

HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR CAT
• How to make your cat trust you
Lowering your cat to the ground, make sure its paws have reached the floor. Your cat will trust you and know that it won’t tumble if you let it go.
• How to stroke your cat
If you sit on the floor with your legs crossed and look at your cat, it will interpret this as a friendly gesture and come up to you to let you stroke it.
Also, stretch your hand out in its direction. Your middle finger should be a little lower than the others. The cat will start rubbing its nose or face against your hand.
• How to make your cat appear
A cat may go and hide and only appear when it’s alone or hears a calm voice.

MAIN CAT GESTURES
• If a cat raises its nose up and throws its head, it’s saying, “I see you.” Cats often make this gesture to people walking past the window. Have you ever noticed it?
• A cat might press its ears against its head if it feels scared, worried, or wants to play. They also do this when they are sniffing something that’s interested them.
• When a cat sticks its tongue out slightly and licks itself, it’s worried or anxious.

CAT LANGUAGE
• Cats generally greet people or announce their presence with a short sound.
• Lengthy meowing indicates that your cat is very glad to see you. This occurs if you’re away from home for a long time.
• A medium-length meow might be a request for water or food.
• A long sound (a mix of purring and meowing) is a more insistent request or demand.
• A low meow is a complaint or indication of dissatisfaction. Also, it might mean your cat is ready to fight.
• A loud sound often indicates an urgent demand (for instance, you cat needs more food).
• A purring or vibrating sound indicates a desire for closer contact or attention. Cats purr for various reasons, but most often they do it when they are happy.

Now you know how to find a common language with any cat. By the way, are you a cat person or a dog person?

Trimming tiny kitten nails! | How to cut claws on a young kitten, Part 1

Clipping tiny kitten nails is no joke! Here we trim our foster kitten Marsha’s sharp claws. She’s very patient 🙂 Hit that Thumbs-Up if you enjoyed the video, and subscribe for more!

Part 2: Butter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZhMNf__p_o
Part 3: Peanut https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gip4ifK7Nbw

There are a number of tricks you can employ to make it easier to trim those pointy little kitty claws. Cat claws are an important part being a cat for physiological and emotional reasons, and it’s vital to keep your cats claws intact! Starting your kittens on a clipping regiment when they are young will make clipping your cat’s nails an easy and enjoyable process throughout their life with you.

When kittens are small, their nails are small and extra pointy, so we like to clip them partly to keep them from sticking to clothing and furniture (and skin! ouch!) like velcro! It’s also super helpful for getting them use to the process so that you can handle their paws and claws when they’re older and have them enjoy the attention rather than be worried about why on earth the silly humans are touching their paws 🙂

We’ve clipped kittens as young as 4-5 weeks. Kittens younger than that are SO tiny, and their nails are SO small, and when they’re much younger they can’t even retract their claws yet.

First, it helps to have a kitten who’s familiar with you and used to being touched, especially on their paws. So if you have a kitten and you plan to cut his nails (which I definitely recommend! Do NOT declaw your sweet furbaby!), the while you’re cuddling him, give his little toe-beans a gentle squeeze and practice extending his claws. That way, he’ll be used to it when it comes time to give them a snip.

If you’re not sure how your kitty is going to react, or if he’s in an especially energetic mood, it can help a lot to wrap them gently in a towel (I discuss that in this trimming video, and I show it in several others), and just pull out the one paw at a time. Then, extend their little claws, just like you practiced, and clip away! I always take off JUST THE TIP when clipping kitten and cat nails, because I want it to be an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. And the more they enjoy it, the less the mind doing it more frequently anyway – so each kitten pedicure session goes faster!

I hope you find this video about trimming your kitten’s claws helpful, and I hope you have a great experience clipping your kitten’s nails! It can be intimidating at first but once you get the hang of it, you’ll never think twice about giving their claws a quick cut.

Please let me know if you have any questions about trimming kitten nails, and leave a comment if you have any questions or funny stories about your kitties!

Why Cats Lie on Their Backs When They See You

While cats have been domesticated pets since the days of Cleopatra, there’s still a lot about them that remains a mystery. Like when they just roll over as you approach them, what’s up with that? Actually, when cats lie on their back and expose their bellies, it’s their way of saying “Hello, human!”! But it’s not the only message a cat sends when it shows you its cute furry little belly.

Today we’re talking about cat behaviors. Why do they expose their belly? Why do they bring you dead animals? Why do they like watching from afar? There are plenty of other things they do that just have you scratching your head in confusion. Let’s figure out together!

SUMMARY:
– Be careful not to invade your cat’s space unless you know they love belly rubs and like to be touched. Look for other clues like their ears and tail. If their tail is moving back and forth and their ears are set back, this means they’d rather be left alone.
– When a cat weaves through your legs and rubs its head on you, it’s called bunting, and it involves a release of pheromones from a cat’s head. Basically, it’s as if they’re leaving their scent on you to make sure other cats know that you belong to them.
– Have you ever been snuggling with your kitty when they start pressing their little paws into you over and over again? When cats do this sort of bread-kneading motion, it’s actually leftover from their kitten days when they used to nurse.
– Has your cat ever made prolonged eye contact with you while blinking really slowly every few seconds? It’s awkward, I know! But this is actually a way for your cat to show you affection!
– If you find that your cat is watching you from afar but never wants to engage, this could be a sign that they’re anxious or even mad at you.
– Similar to how a dog urinates on things to mark their territory (which cats can do too sometimes, by the way), cats like to scratch furniture to show others what’s theirs.
– If your cat’s teeth are chattering really fast, it doesn’t mean they have the chills. It’s actually related to a natural instinct to hunt.
– Many animal behaviorists believe that your cat shares a successful kill with you as a way of thanking you for your care. Cats also do this in hopes that you’ll see how good they are, and you’ll pay more attention to them!
– Cats seem to love squeezing into small spaces, even though it often looks terribly uncomfortable. They do this because it helps them feel protected and safe.
– Many house cats hold in a lot of energy during the day and since they have nocturnal instincts, they often go nuts in the middle of the night.

Cat’s interaction with people 4:38
Cat gestures 6:14
Cat language 6:57
How to communicate with your cat better 8:09

Hit the like button for cats, and leave a short comment if you are in love with dogs!

Bizarre animal appearances

Animals shock us with the most bizarre appearances – some even look like they’ve been dressing up. But the weird and wonderful shapes and colours of nature are vital to the animals’ lives. Sometimes they’re disguised to help blend in, other times they are designed to stand out and show off. But whether it’s a monkey in make-up or a salamander’s toxic stripes, the weird and wonderful outfits enable the creature to thrive.
The obvious place to start exploring animal outfits is the colourful parrots. The birds dazzling hues are not all caused by pigment, but more a clever reflection of the light. Bright, vibrant plumage is very attractive to a bird of the opposite sex – it demonstrates that the wearer is in good health, but surprisingly the main function of their bold markings is camouflage.
There is an alternative to blending in. Some animals use colourful costumes to make themselves stand out. In the case of bold and bright tree frogs and salamanders, it’s to warn would be attackers of toxins in their skins.
Intimidation can also be used in the mating game, when a male wants to make himself bigger and more intimidating to his competitors. Many birds flaunt elaborate plumage to make themselves look more dramatic. The king of courting costume though is the peacock. With a two metre tail span, covered in colourful, eyelike markings, he’s hard to ignore. But while some creature costumes are easy to explain, others remain a mystery.
Animals dressing up might seem colourful to us, but perhaps it’s not so strange – there is no species that enjoys putting on a costume as much as we do!

How Do Black Holes form – National Geographic The Universe – Space Discovery Documentary

There are a couple of answers to the question, “How do black holes form?” Different types of black holes form through different processes. Stellar-mass black holes are born when very massive stars (typically tens of solar masses) explode in supernovae. These explosions are some of the most energetic phenomena in the universe. In a supernova, the outer layers of a dying star are violently ejected into space, while the remaining core collapses under its own weight to form a black hole.

The formation mechanism of supermassive black holes is still a topic of debate. While it is generally agreed that a black hole in the center of a galaxy could become supermassive by accreting matter and merging with other black holes, the origin of the progenitor black hole remains unclear. Perhaps supermassive progenitors were all originally stellar-mass black holes formed by the explosions of the first generation of extremely massive stars. Another model states that before star formation even ignited young galaxies, large gas clouds collapsed to form the first black holes. Yet another model suggests that primordial black holes, hypothetically formed by density fluctuations in the first moments following the Big Bang, are the seeds of supermassive black holes.

How the Universe Works – The Dark Matter Enigma – Space Discovery Documentary

Explore the biggest question of all. How far do the stars stretch out into space? And what’s beyond them? In modern times, we built giant telescopes that have allowed us to cast our gaze deep into the universe. Astronomers have been able to look back to near the time of its birth. They’ve reconstructed the course of cosmic history in astonishing detail. From intensive computer modeling, and myriad close observations, they’ve uncovered important clues to its ongoing evolution. Many now conclude that what we can see, the stars and galaxies that stretch out to the limits of our vision, represent only a small fraction of all there is. Does the universe go on forever? Where do we fit within it? And how would the great thinkers have wrapped their brains around the far-out ideas on today’s cutting edge? For those who find infinity hard to grasp, even troubling, you’re not alone. It’s a concept that has long tormented even the best minds. Over two thousand years ago, the Greek mathematician Pythagoras and his followers saw numerical relationships as the key to understanding the world around them. But in their investigation of geometric shapes, they discovered that some important ratios could not be expressed in simple numbers. Take the circumference of a circle to its diameter, called Pi. Computer scientists recently calculated Pi to 5 trillion digits, confirming what the Greeks learned: there are no repeating patterns and no ending in sight. The discovery of the so-called irrational numbers like Pi was so disturbing, legend has it, that one member of the Pythagorian cult, Hippassus, was drowned at sea for divulging their existence. A century later, the philosopher Zeno brought infinity into the open with a series of paradoxes: situations that are true, but strongly counter-intuitive. In this modern update of one of Zeno’s paradoxes, say you have arrived at an intersection. But you are only allowed to cross the street in increments of half the distance to the other side. So to cross this finite distance, you must take an infinite number of steps. In math today, it’s a given that you can subdivide any length an infinite number of times, or find an infinity of points along a line. What made the idea of infinity so troubling to the Greeks is that it clashed with their goal of using numbers to explain the workings of the real world. To the philosopher Aristotle, a century after Zeno, infinity evoked the formless chaos from which the world was thought to have emerged: a primordial state with no natural laws or limits, devoid of all form and content. But if the universe is finite, what would happen if a warrior traveled to the edge and tossed a spear? Where would it go? It would not fly off on an infinite journey, Aristotle said. Rather, it would join the motion of the stars in a crystalline sphere that encircled the Earth. To preserve the idea of a limited universe, Aristotle would craft an historic distinction. On the one hand, Aristotle pointed to the irrational numbers such as Pi. Each new calculation results in an additional digit, but the final, final number in the string can never be specified. So Aristotle called it “potentially” infinite. Then there’s the “actually infinite,” like the total number of points or subdivisions along a line. It’s literally uncountable. Aristotle reserved the status of “actually infinite” for the so-called “prime mover” that created the world and is beyond our capacity to understand. This became the basis for what’s called the Cosmological, or First Cause, argument for the existence of God. #universedocumentary #spacedocumentary #Universe

Naked Science – Death of the Sun

Subscribe to Naked Science – http://goo.gl/wpc2Q1

Every other Wednesday we present a new video, so join us to see the truth laid bare…

The Sun is the most powerful force in our solar system. It generates the heat and light that sustains us. Without it we wouldn’t have life on Earth. But the Sun is violent and volatile and is becoming more dangerous as it ages.

Naked Science explores the life and death of the Sun. We explore what will happen in the future as the Sun ages, and how our lives linked to the Sun’s life cycle.

Firstly we want to understand how the Sun was created from a giant cloud of dust and gas. Scientists pretty much agree on the theory but physical evidence is hard to come by. Naked Science meets scientists at Johnson Space Center who have been working on a ten year mission to bring a piece of the Sun back to Earth. How do scientists collect samples of the Sun when a probe could never get near the Sun’s surface? We follow NASA’s dare devil mission to capture the samples.

Today we rely on the Sun to live. It’s energy fuels trees and plants which are essential for the food chain we all depend upon. But how do we get the energy? Naked Science explores the incredible journey that the particles of light from the Sun have to make to earth to deliver their energy.

How old is the Sun? This is a question which has fascinated scientists for a long time. Scientists have now established the Sun’s age with the aid of one remarkable fact that the Sun sings. We visit Big Bear Solar Observatory in California to meet one of the scientists who has been at the forefront of using the Sun’s sounds to determine its age.

The Sun’s warmth and light helped life on Earth to begin but it can also play havoc with our modern way of life. Billions of tons of plasma erupting from the sun send powerful storms hurtling through our solar system. We visit the Space Environment Center in Boulder, Colorado where they try to predict the sun’s violent moods. 1989 brought one of the most dramatic space storms and Naked Science uncovers the events which took place on the Earth. But what lies behind the explosive events on the Sun. We travel to the California Institute of Technology in Los Angeles where they are trying to understand the science behind the explosions by creating them in the laboratory.

But what about the risks of solar storms to astronauts in Space? Naked Science meets Michael Foale who was directly in the line of fire on the International Space Station during the intense solar activity in 2003. There is one solar event astronauts can’t be protected from. A superflare. Superflares are up to 10 million times more energetic than the most powerful solar flares. Naked Science journeys to Louisiana to meet an astrophysicist who has found evidence of nine stars that have experienced superflares. What if our sun ever produced a superflare, what would happen to life on earth?

We know when the sun was born, how it nurtured us and how it has thrown a fair amount of danger our way. But how and when will it die and will the Earth survive?

How the Universe Works – The Secrets of Twin Suns – Space Exploration Our Universe

The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System. It is a nearly perfect sphere of hot plasma, with internal convective motion that generates a magnetic field via a dynamo process. It is by far the most important source of energy for life on Earth. Its diameter is about 1.39 million kilometers (864,000 miles), or 109 times that of Earth, and its mass is about 330,000 times that of Earth. It accounts for about 99.86% of the total mass of the Solar System. Roughly three quarters of the Sun’s mass consists of hydrogen (~73%); the rest is mostly helium (~25%), with much smaller quantities of heavier elements, including oxygen, carbon, neon, and iron.

The Sun is a G-type main-sequence star (G2V) based on its spectral class. As such, it is informally and not completely accurately referred to as a yellow dwarf (its light is closer to white than yellow). It formed approximately 4.6 billion years ago from the gravitational collapse of matter within a region of a large molecular cloud. Most of this matter gathered in the center, whereas the rest flattened into an orbiting disk that became the Solar System. The central mass became so hot and dense that it eventually initiated nuclear fusion in its core. It is thought that almost all stars form by this process.

The Sun is roughly middle-aged; it has not changed dramatically for more than four billion years, and will remain fairly stable for more than another five billion years. It currently fuses about 600 million tons of hydrogen into helium every second, converting 4 million tons of matter into energy every second as a result. This energy, which can take between 10,000 and 170,000 years to escape from its core, is the source of the Sun’s light and heat. In about 5 billion years, when hydrogen fusion in its core has diminished to the point at which the Sun is no longer in hydrostatic equilibrium, its core will undergo a marked increase in density and temperature while its outer layers expand to eventually become a red giant. It is calculated that the Sun will become sufficiently large to engulf the current orbits of Mercury and Venus, and render Earth uninhabitable. After this, it will shed its outer layers and become a dense type of cooling star known as a white dwarf, and no longer produce energy by fusion, but still glow and give off heat from its previous fusion.

The enormous effect of the Sun on Earth has been recognized since prehistoric times, and the Sun has been regarded by some cultures as a deity. The synodic rotation of Earth and its orbit around the Sun are the basis of solar calendars, one of which is the predominant calendar in use today.
Planets that orbit two suns instead of one might be deadly hell worlds, but new discoveries reveal that sci-fi star systems with binary stars might be optimal places for alien life.

Monkey Hunters [Baboons VS Lions Documentary] | Wild Things

Lions rarely hunt baboons. These large monkeys are armed with dangerous teeth, they are hard to catch and usually not worth the risk or effort. But there is one place in Africa’s Great Rift Valley where baboons are plentiful and lions have learned to catch them.

The river in Tarangire National Park in Tanzania never runs dry during the dry season herds of animals come to the river to drink. It is a time of plenty for the predators, but when it rains on the surrounding plain, the herds abandon Tarangire. The predators then only have the resident animals to hunt. Desperations forces the lions to target unusual prey; the baboons.

The Baltic forest and moorland

The wide, often untouched wilderness of the Baltic hinterland is home to many animals. More than 350 brown bears live in the primeval forests of Alutaguse. In the spring, the Soomaa National Park transforms into a huge lake. Europe’s widest waterfall is located in Latvia. In the beginning of May, vimba bream follow the course of the River Venta. The hardly 50-centimetre-long fish have to overcome a 400-metre-long rock barrier in order to reach their spawning grounds.
The Baltics are rich in superlatives: a fifth of the world’s spotted eagle stocks breed here. One of the largest courtship arenas for snipes is located here in the floodplains of Latvia. More than 1000 wolves go on the hunt in Latvia’s forests. Lithuania is the land of storks – with over 13.000 pairs, no other region in the Baltic States has more white storks.

2 Leopards Attack Giant Rock Python ! Kruger National Park.

This Leopard Mother and Cub combination went after a giant Rock Python. The Leopard cub soon gave way for his Mom to take over the attack on the snake.

“While on safari in South Africa we witnessed a rare and unusual event. The morning started out with a bang – finding a female leopard (Metsi) in a tree, one of my favorite sightings. After a short while she climbed out of the tree and climbed upon a termite mound and began calling. Soon her cub came out of the brush to join her for a little bonding and motherly love. However, before long the cub was off exploring again and noticed something in the bush and curiously approached to see what it was. It turned out to be a huge Rock Python that began hissing at the cub. This is where the video begins and all bedlam breaks out with vehicles backing out of the way, the cub sitting on the sidelines, and the mother leopard and python squaring off in a battle to the death. Enjoy the show.

Our guide Khimbini, one of the best we have used, commented that the leopard was killing an endangered animal in the form of the Python. The interesting thing in this was watching mom after vanquishing the foe come around behind the cub, who sat intently watching the whole time, and gently push her towards the carcass. Very tentatively she reached out a paw with claws extended to touch the beast. Kind of comical but also incredible intriguing to see a real live lesson in surviving the dangers in the bush. The leopards fed on the carcass and then we were told a clan of hyena came in later in the day and ate the majority of it.”- Video Taker

The Land of No Men: Inside Kenya’s Women-Only Village

Subscribe Now: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-BROADLY
Where the foothills of Mount Kenya merge into the desert, the people of Samburu have maintained a strict patriarchy for over 500 years in northern Kenya. That is, until 25 years ago, when Rebecca Lolosoli founded Umoja village as a safe haven for the region’s women. Umoja, which means “unity” in Swahili, is quite literally a no man’s land, and the matriarchal refuge is now home to the Samburu women who no longer want to suffer abuses, like genital mutilation and forced marriages, at the hands of men.

Throughout the years, it has also empowered other women in the districts surrounding Samburu to start their own men-excluding villages. Broadly visited Umoja and the villages it inspired to meet with the women who were fed up with living in a violent patriarchy.

🇺🇸Will Trump build the wall or hit a wall? l Inside Story

‘Build that wall’ – was a regular slogan from U.S. president Donald Trump during and after his campaign.
Now, he’s demanding over 5 billion dollars from the Democratic controlled House of Representatives to keep his promise.
The Democrats have refused to give in–
Which has led to a partial government shutdown that began on december 22nd.
It’s affecting nearly 800,000 government employees.
The president has threatened to prolong the shutdown for months or even years.
And there’s even talk of declaring a national emergency and bypassing Congress altogether.
So, is this faceoff about the wall, or the Presidency?
And how is it changing American politics?

Presenter: Sami Zeidan

Guests:

Oliver McGee – a former Senior White House adviser and former Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation under the Clinton administration.

Shawn Zeller – Deputy Editor of Congressional Quarterly Magazine.

Allan Lichtman – Professor of Political History at the American University.

Woman Living Fully Off-Grid for 2 Years in a Tiny Yurt

Beige has been living fully off-grid in Canada in her small yurt for over 2 years. She has no electricity, she uses a wood stove for heat, and to cook. Her tiny home can’t be accessed by car so she hauls in all of her spring water, wood, and food on foot.

We spent a couple of days getting to know Beige and we were inspired by her dedication to live a lifestyle that is in line with her values. She works hard every single day to get her food, water, and wood, in addition to helping out on the farm where her yurt is set up, and working as a nature mentor with local children.

She’s also incredibly curious and fearless when it comes to trying new things and developing new skills that will help her in her off-grid lifestyle. She grows a lot of her own vegetables, and she’s learning about plant medicine – she plants, harvests, and mixes a lot of her own tinctures.

For refrigeration, she has a cooler that sits below the floor so that it touches the ground and stays cool. Her toilet is a hole in the ground outside with a pallet over top of it. She showers at yoga studios in the winter, and she swims in the spring/summer/fall.

For light, she uses candles, and she charges her phone in her car on her way to and from work.

She has her yurt set up on a friend’s farm, tucked away in a wooded area that gives her privacy, although a neighbour has complained so she is in the process of deciding if she will get a permit or move the yurt elsewhere.

While living off-grid in her yurt has been an incredible experience for Beige, she also acknowledges that it’s a very difficult lifestyle that could be made easier if she could live among other people who are off-grid as well so they could exchange

Beige bought her yurt from Groovy Yurts and you can check them out here: https://groovyyurts.com/
