Hexbug Nano Vs the cats. Cats react to the Hexbug Nano. See the cats as they check out the Hexbug Nano for the first time. The Hexbug has a random pattern that keeps the cats entertained. This is a great cat toy with no moving parts to get stuck in the cat’s fur. The Bug Bot is really good at getting back on its feet and avoiding obstacles. The Hexbug worked best on hard flat surfaces. It is not recommended for carpet but the cats did have fun batting the Hexbug across the carpet and chasing after it.
Like all Hexbug products, it uses vibration to run around in random patterns. There are two play modes: Paw Play Mode and Chase Mode. To activate Paw Play Mode, hold down the button on the bottom of the mouse. In Paw Play Mode, the mouse wakes when the cat touches it and restarts the play pattern. To turn on Chase Mode, push the button. In Chase mode, the mouse pauses randomly five times and wakes when the cat touches it to restart the play pattern. Another great feature about this toy is that if it is flipped onto its back, it will right itself.
I decided to do a few experiments to give the cats more mental challenges. Being indoor cats that no longer hunt for their food, it is always good to give them mental challenges when possible. Many cat behavior problems arise purely out of boredom and lack of environmental stimulation (even the kitties that sleep all day).
Today we tried out a Nano HEXBUG. While these are a children’s toy they can be used for cats under supervision. I used cloth medical tape to create a tail (folded over on itself so no longer sticky), and this made the toy MUCH better. Putting it in a clear container or a box with holes so they can chase after it and they were in love.
The Nano Hexbug is our new favorite toy, MUCH better then live crickets.
I purchased the “HEXBUG” mouse robotic cat toy for Houdini and decided to put it through the test. This is some pretty high tech engineering for a kitty toy. It is a pet activated smart toy that scurries and scampers all over the place on a hard surface. Not so well, at all, on carpet. But none the less, it is very entertaining for both Houdini and myself. Funny to watch. Enjoy…
