SUMMARY
-Hares are typically faster and larger than rabbits. Their ears and strong hind legs are also longer, and they have bigger feet.
-Butterflies have club-shaped antennae that look like a thin shaft with a bulbous tip. As for moths, their antennae are either serrated or feathery.
-You will notice that sheep hold them down whereas the tails of goats proudly stay up.
-Like all rodents, porcupines have big front teeth. As for hedgehogs, their snouts and teeth are pointy, and they are omnivores, feasting on insects, frogs, plants, and fruit.
-Mature llamas are much larger than alpacas, whose weight typically varies between 100 lb and 170 lb. As for an adult llama, it can weigh as much as 400 lb.
-Crocodiles are the lucky owners of special glands, which they use to excrete excess salt. As for alligators, their salt glands aren’t so well developed. That’s why they mostly live in fresh water.
-Sea lions’ flippers are larger and covered with skin. Seals have a thinly webbed flipper, and each small toe has a claw. Seals prefer solitude, and sea lions love gathering in big companies and hanging out with friends.
-Bees are hairy: they need this feature to dip into flowers to collect pollen. Also, their rear legs are flat. Bees look more stocky.
-The skin of most frogs is smooth, while a toad’s skin is thick and bumpy. Frogs’ legs are long and slender, and their eyes are big and bulging.
-Most dolphins have pointy faces, curved dorsal fins, and slender bodies. Porpoises have triangular back fins, robust bodies, and rounded faces.
-Turtles have webbed feet as they live mostly in water, and this makes swimming easier. Also, their shells are lighter and flatter.
-You can find jaguars in Central and South America and sometimes in the southwest of the USA. As for leopards, they dwell in Asia and Africa. Jaguars have smaller spots. Leopards are more slender and a bit smaller than jaguars.

Kiribati: a drowning paradise in the South Pacific | DW Documentary

Climate change and rising sea levels mean the island nation of Kiribati in the South Pacific is at risk of disappearing into the sea.

But the island’s inhabitants aren’t giving up. They are doing what they can to save their island from inundation. Can COP23 help make a difference?

UN estimates indicate that Kiribati could disappear in just 30 or 40 years. That’s because the average elevation is less than two meters above sea level. And some of the knock-on effects of climate change have made the situation more difficult. Kiribati can hardly be surpassed in terms of charm and natural beauty. There are 33 atolls and one reef island – spread out over an area of 3.5 million square kilometers. All have white, sandy beaches and blue lagoons. Kiribati is the world’s largest state that consists exclusively of atolls. A local resident named Kaboua points to the empty, barren land around him and says, “There used to be a large village here with 70 families.” But these days, this land is only accessible at low tide. At high tide, it’s all under water. Kaboua says that sea levels are rising all the time, and swallowing up the land. That’s why many people here build walls made of stone and driftwood, or sand or rubbish. But these barriers won’t stand up to the increasing number of storm surges. Others are trying to protect against coastal erosion by planting mangrove shrubs or small trees. But another local resident, Vasiti Tebamare, remains optimistic. She works for KiriCAN, an environmental organization. Vasiti says: “The industrialized countries — the United States, China, and Europe — use fossil fuels for their own ends. But what about us?” Kiribati’s government has even bought land on an island in Fiji, so it can evacuate its people in an emergency. But Vasiti and most of the other residents don’t want to leave.

7. Desert Cones
The thing about secrets is that once they’re uncovered, they’re not a secret anymore. But, near El Gouna, Egypt, in the sands that surround the area, there is a “secret” that keeps getting rediscovered. You see, in 2014, people used Google Maps to look at the Sahara Desert and its surrounding areas and noticed some odd cone shaped markings in the sand. As they zoomed out, they noticed a massive pattern that was too precise to be random.

6. The Nabta Stones
When it comes to building things that are theoretically impossible for the times, the Egyptians hold the record. In southern Egypt there are ancient megalithic structures that are believed to be a type of calendar circle.

5. It’s Not Exactly What You Think
Let’s start off with some interesting facts about the Sahara Desert that you might not have known. For example, even though it is considered the largest desert on Earth, that’s technically not true. Antarctica is scientifically a desert too, a snow desert, but one nonetheless.

4. The Magic Lake
When you are dehydrated and have been wandering around the desert for a while, you might start seeing things that are aren’t there, like a lake. A mirage can be very deadly depending on how you react to it. But, imagine people’s surprise when an actual lake appeared near Tunisia in 2014, and not only was it real, it was massive.

3. Desert Glass
Glass is something you most likely see every single day. It’s used to make windows, windshields, glasses, and so many more things. But, you wouldn’t expect to find it in certain places. Like for example, in the worlds’ biggest desert. Yet, that’s exactly what happened.

2. Kingdoms Beneath The Sand
One of the biggest things that the Sahara Desert is known for is it’s sand. It’s everywhere! The sand has helped hide and preserve some interesting secrets. Looking at it from above, we have found some very old secrets.

1. The Eye Of The Sahara
I definitely saved the best for last, because this mystery is something that’s been around for quite some time, but was only discovered once we started taking pictures from space. I give to you, the Eye of the Sahara.

Origins Explained is the place to be to find all the answers to your questions, from mysterious events and unsolved mysteries to everything there is to know about the world and its amazing animals!

OMG Our Ragdoll Cat Bella Morgana Chased A Raccoon Up The Tree

It is a well-known fact that ragdoll is very docile. The Ragdoll is marketed by breeders as having a docile, calm and floppy nature with claims that these characteristics have been passed down from the Persian and Birman breeds. But in our case, this might not be entirely true. At 3 years of age, our Bella Morgana has chased our other female cat Irelia out of the gate.

Today we saw Bella Morgana chased a raccoon the tree. However, knowing raccoon’s behavior, we do not think the raccoon was afraid of Bella, it might just prefer not to have a confrontation with the cat and prefer to run away. We also think that Bella is more curious about the raccoon since this is the first time she encountered the raccoon. Perhaps she just wanted to befriend this wild creature.

For some raccoons are mischievous but lovable furry creatures that bring a bit of the wild into suburban areas. For others raccoons are murderous vandals which pose a serious risk to the health and safety of their pets. So which is it? There can be no doubt that the question is becoming ever more important, as raccoons are coming into contact with humans and their pets more and more often – and not just in north America. For once human-raccoon interaction is not caused so much by humans invading the raccoon habitat as by raccoons invading ours. Raccoons are very adaptable animals.

After being charmed by the first impression of these undoubtedly cute animals, many people start to wonder uneasily whether a raccoon is a danger to their pet.

The reality is somewhat more reassuring for people with cats. While dogs may attack a raccoon, a cat will generally pretend to ignore coons, and try to be ‘co-incidentally’ elsewhere while the beast is around. Since raccoons usually ignore or avoid cats, the two species often get along fine by not getting along together at all.

This does not mean that conflict may not arise. Like cats, raccoons have individual personalities, and when a bloody-minded raccoon meets a stubborn cat, fur is likely to fly.

The Ragdoll is a cat breed with blue eyes and a distinct colourpoint coat. It is a large and muscular semi-longhair cat with a soft and silky coat. Like all long haired cats, Ragdolls need grooming to ensure that their fur does not mat. It is recommended Ragdolls are given baths once a month. Developed by American breeder Ann Baker in the 1960s, it is best known for its docile and placid temperament and affectionate nature. The name “Ragdoll” is derived from the tendency of individuals from the original breeding stock to go limp and relaxed when picked up. Particularly popular in both the United Kingdom and the breed’s native United States, ragdoll cats often are known as “dog-like cats” or “puppy-like cats” due to behaviors such as their tendency to follow people around, their ease at being physically handled, and their relative lack of aggression toward other pets.

The resting place of the the USS Juneau, lost in World War II, now has an exact location on the map. Researchers aboard the R/V Petrel, a scientific vessel and a project of philanthropist Paul G. Allen, discovered the shipwreck in the South Pacific’s Solomon Islands. Images taken from an autonomous submersible give the first view of the ship since it went down in the 1942 Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. The Juneau is known for the five Sullivan brothers, who were granted an exemption from a Navy policy keeping family members separate. The Sullivans were among the 687 crew members of the Juneau who lost their lives in the battle.

Lost City Of Atlantis Found In North Sea?

Divers from oil companies located within the north sea, have been discovering the remains of a drowned ancient city which once spanned from the UK all the way to Denmark.
An ancient city so massive its suspected population has been estimated well into the tens of thousands.

A team of climatologists, archaeologists and geophysicists, have now successfully mapped the area, which has revealed just how vast and expansive this once ‘lost land once was, many specialists are now claiming this was once the ‘real heartland’ of Europe.

This enormous civilization is now believed to have dated back to some 8000 years ago, and that the land mass was submerged over a period of several thousand years, a submersion which began some 20,000 years prior.
Dr Richard Bates of the Department of Earth Sciences at St Andrews, who organised the Drowned Landscapes exhibit, covering the finds within the UK, says the data reveals the human story behind Doggerland, a now submerged city of the North Sea that was once larger than many modern European countries.
Could these discoveries reveal doggerland as the real lost city of Atlantis?
Several hypotheses have placed the sunken island of Atlantis within modern northern Europe, most noted among such researchers is Olaus Rudbeck.
Who suspected that Doggerland, as well as Viking Bergen Island, which is thought to have been flooded by a megatsunami following the Storegga slide in 6100 BC, is the real location of Atlantis, a proposition he put forward all the way back in the 16 hundreds.
Some have proposed the Celtic Shelf as a possible location, and that there is certainly links to Ireland.
Many places have been put forward for the possible location of the sunken city throughout the years, yet none have revealed ruins worthy of such claims, many of these areas being too small to have housed such an enormous city.
Doggerland however, fits the bill, not only could it turn out to be the largest ancient civilization found on earth, but it also rests in a possible location, based on historical research, for the city of Atlantis, it was submerged at one point in its history, and it is revealing astonishing ruins of a once great and presently unknown civilization.
Dr Bates, a geophysicist, said: ‘Doggerland was the real heartland of Europe until sea levels rose to give us the UK coastline of today.

‘We have speculated for years on the lost land’s existence from bones dredged by fishermen all over the North Sea, but it’s only since working with oil companies in the last few years that we have been able to re-create what this lost land looked like.
‘When the data was first being processed, I thought it unlikely to give us any useful information, however as more area was covered, it revealed a vast and complex landscape.
‘We have now been able to model its flora and fauna, build up a picture of the ancient people that lived there, and begin to understand some of the dramatic events that subsequently changed the land, including the sea rising and a devastating tsunami.’
The research project is a collaboration between St Andrews and the Universities of Aberdeen, Birmingham, Dundee and Wales Trinity St David.

Torrential rains in a short period of time lead to the flooding – a rare phenomenon that has happened at least three times in the last 16 years. Olho D’Agua (“eyes of water”) is a popular snorkeling spot known for its crystalline waters. The clarity of the river comes from minerals that rapidly take out dirt and impurities as they descend to the bottom. The water receded to its normal level by the end of the day. Recanto Ecologico Rio da Prata is in Mato Grosso do Sul in Brazil’s pantanal region.

Although the rock ledges where these ancient fossils are embedded sit high above the crashing coastal waves, they once were situated at the bottom of the ocean. Mistaken Point, and all it’s wonders, serve as a muse for some of the region’s talented artists.

10 Ancient Mysteries of Mesopotamia

From the epic of Gilgamesh to mysterious buildings and places; These are 10 ANCIENT Mysteries of Mesopotamia

Subscribe to American Eye http://goo.gl/GBphkv

10. First City Builders

9. Cuneiform

8. Ubaid Lizard Man

7. Epic of Gilgamesh

6. Enuma Elish

5. The List of Kings
Another mysterious ancient text that’s written in the mesopotamia region is certainly the list of kings. This cuneiform tablet was known as the Sumerian King list dates back to around 2100 BC and is a list of 140 different kings, some which seem to live abnormally long lives. Although the sumerians were advanced for age in which they lived, living to 40 years was a long time back them. However the kings, were direct descendants of the gods and the lists states that some have lived 10’s of thousands of years. One record of one of the first kings named Alalngar states that his reign lasted 36,000 years. What is going on here? Then as you look at the lists of more recent dynasties, the kings’ reigns are a little more normal. Although it’s possible some of these are exaggerated but other historical records seem to have people living this long. What do you believe?

4. Ancient Handbag
For whatever reason, the depiction of gods like the annunaki are holding onto handbags that almost appear to look like a modern day purse of some type, like you see in this photo. But hold on it gets even more mysterious, this image from the olmec kingdom, all the way across the world in modern day mexico, seem to carrying on to a very similar looking object, next to a reptile-serpent looking creature. And then hold on minute, this photo was captured at the first known religious complex, Gobekli Tepe in Turkey displaying 3 handbags at the top, making you wonder if all three of these people from all over the world were seeing the same thing. Some ancients texts describe that the gods, would bring “knowledge” with them in bags. What exactly could be in these bags and what did they mean by knowledge exactly. Let us know what you think is in the bag in the comment section and maybe we’ll feature your answer in an upcoming video.

3. Hanging Gardens of Babylon
One of the most enduring mysteries of Mesopotamia and wonders ofthe ancient world in general is, the hanging gardens of babylon. It would have been located in the city state of Babylon and was most likely constructed by the assyrian king King Nebuchadnezzar, who built it for his wife who was homesick. This illustration portrays King Nebuchadnezzar as powerful ruler with the Hanging Gardens, in a fairly accruate depiction This was one of the Greatest Kings of all time who ruled a confirmed 37 years during a prosperous period of the city state. The hanging gardens would have most likely been a ziggurat type structure, like we saw in Ur, only covered in lavish gardens from all over the known world. There’s no solid archaeological evidence that the gardens ever existed, but it is described in quite detailed accounts and many large aqueducts leading to Babylon seem to point to some evidence there something big going on here.

2. Lost in History
Archaeologists haven’t had a ton of time to analyse historical records of mesopotamia because much of their culture had gone forgotten about until the 19th century, when new discoveries were made. Many kingdom s and empires took over this land of the fertile crescent and there’s possibly still many secrets to uncover about the first civilizations. French and British archaeologists stumbled upon ancient cities and the cuneiform tablets while they were hunting artifacts of the assyrians. No one had any idea until the discovery of Nineveh how advanced the Sumerians truly were with literature and mathematics. What else we don’t know about them still remains a mystery.

1.The Great Flood
One of the most enduring mysteries of ancient Sumeria is indeed the epic of Gilgamesh, but something happened in this story is well known in many different cultures and is even depicted in the Bibl. The story of Noah’s Ark and the Epic of Gilgamesh have striking similarities. The Annuna ki gods council were apparently upset with man’s sins and sent a flood to wipe humans off the planet. While some people find this legend of the great flood to mythological, the epic of gilgamesh is much older and this myth is found all over the world. Could the anunnaki have regretted their decision to help mankind advance and sent an asteroid or some type of super weapon that would flood the entire known world? Whatever you believe to true, one thing is certain; a lot of the great achievements by the ancient mesopotamians have helped changed planet earth and they tend to credit other worldly beings for these accomplishments.

The crocodile made several attempts at escape but the curious mammal continued to give chase. Crocodiles often prey on hippo calves but the reptile did not show any signs of predation nor did it fight back. The reluctant playmate eventually made its way to a herd of elephants that scared away the young hippo.

National geographic – Strange Things In the Amazon Forest – BBC wildlife animal documentary

National geographic – Strange Things In the Amazon Forest – BBC wildlife animal documentary
The Amazon rainforest (Portuguese: Floresta Amazonica or Amazonia; Spanish: Selva Amazonica, Amazonia or usually Amazonia; French: Foret amazonienne; Dutch: Amazoneregenwoud), also known in English as Amazonia or the Amazon Jungle, is a moist broadleaf forest that covers most of the Amazon basin of South America. This basin encompasses 7,000,000 square kilometres (2,700,000 sq mi), of which 5,500,000 square kilometres (2,100,000 sq mi) are covered by the rainforest. This region includes territory belonging to nine nations. The majority of the forest is contained within Brazil, with 60% of the rainforest, followed by Peru with 13%, Colombia with 10%, and with minor amounts in Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana. States or departments in four nations contain “Amazonas” in their names. The Amazon represents over half of the planet’s remaining rainforests, and comprises the largest and most biodiverse tract of tropical rainforest in the world, with an estimated 390 billion individual trees divided into 16,000 species.

Animals Taking Selfies That Will Make You Smile

Animals Taking Selfies That Will Make You Smile
The art of taking selfies has officially been adopted by the animal kingdom, and it’s one of the most hilarious things going viral right now. From zoo residents to family pets, these animals are posing, smiling, and even grouping up for the camera. The resulting photos are both adorable and fascinating, as they provide a window into the private lives of the wild’s most mysterious creatures.
While it’s possible to make pets take selfies by touching a smartphone screen, for more exotic animals, a clever method was created. It’s called camera trapping, which means the photo is taken when the animal touches or approaches a motion-sensing device near the lens. It’s a totally safe and non-invasive trick, and it captures even the most dangerous predators in candid, sincerely funny moments.
One mischievous monkey in Indonesia caused a scandal with her selfie in 2014 after she got her hands on a British photographer’s equipment. The images were stunning, and lead to several heated court cases over their true author and copyright holder. It was finally determined that the monkey – a gorgeous Celebes crested macaque – took the pictures herself, making them public domain. Now everyone can freely enjoy her irresistible toothy grin.
Take a look at some of the best animal selfies making their way around the web right now, and while you’re at it, double-check that your own furbaby hasn’t run off with your phone.

30 CATS WITH UNUSUAL MARKINGS

Although cats are split into different breeds just like dogs, they’re rarely referred to by the breed (unless you’re talking to a major cat know-it-all). When a group of cats are present, they’re more likely to be identified by the coat or fur that they have. Cats are known to have various different types of coats of various colors. Sometimes a cat is one solid beautiful color and other times they’re a mixture of them.

The cats in this post however, are nature’s work of art. Their fur patterns are so unique, you’ll never mistake any of them for another cat.

Do You Let Your Cats Sleep on the Bed?

Does your cat get to sleep in the bed with you? … We used to close Cole & Marmalade out of the bedroom at night because of all the kitty olympics and lack of sleep… but then we drove from Florida to California and the three hotel nights we had with them they didn’t disturb us at all!

Then when we arrived in California at our new apartment we didn’t want to shut them out at night in unfamiliar territory so from then on we’ve had an open door policy 🙂

Sure there’s the occasional bump in the night and we’re woken by the “Marmalarm” a few times a week if he’s hungry and we haven’t woken up yet! … But we’re rewarded with Cole snuggles and soothing purrs at bedtime so that works for us!

I thought it would be funny to film Cole at night while Jess was away on a work/vacation trip…. as you can see it took him a few nights to snuggle up with me, but since then he always comes to me first to snuggle when we’re in bed before I roll over and go to sleep, then he goes over to Jess to interrupt her reading 🙂

Here’s why cats sleep so much

Do cats love us as much as we love them? Or do they view us merely as a provider of resources? Shorty, Kodi and their guardian give their perspective in this study/BBC mockumentary. (Note this is not necessarily a response video directed at the BBC’s footage of preliminary research results found here – http://www.wimp.com/catsowners/ as the study has not concluded and thus, results can be misrepresented and misinterpreted, but this is a general response to any who question the affection cats show to their humans.) French Bulldogs Dogs 101 Fun Facts and Information #frenchbulldog

French Bulldogs Dogs 101 Fun Facts and Information #frenchbulldog

From Wikipedia: Must Know Facts The French Bulldog also known as the Frenchie is a small breed of domestic dog. Frenchies were the result in the 1800s of a cross between bulldog ancestors imported from England and local ratters in Paris (France).[3]

In 2014, they were the fourth most popular registered dog in the United Kingdom[4] and in the U.S. the ninth most popular AKC registered dog breed.[5][6]

The origin of the modern French Bulldog breed descends directly from the dogs of the Molossians, an ancient Greek tribe. The dogs were spread throughout the ancient world by Phoenician traders. British Molossian dogs were developed into the Mastiff. A sub-family of the Mastiff were the Bullenbeisser, a type of dog used for bull-baiting.[7]

Blood sports such as bull-baiting were outlawed in England in 1835, leaving these “Bulldogs” unemployed.[7] However, they had been bred for non-sporting reasons since at least 1800, and so their use changed from a sporting breed to a companion breed. To reduce their size, some Bulldogs were crossed with terriers, while others were crossed with pugs. By 1850 the Toy Bulldog had become common in England, and appeared in conformation shows when they began around 1860.[citation needed] These dogs weighed around 16–25 pounds (7.3–11.3 kg), although classes were also available at dog shows for those that weighed under 12 pounds (5.4 kg).[7]

At the same time, lace workers from Nottingham, displaced by the Industrial Revolution, began to settle in Normandy, France.[8] They brought a variety of dogs with them, including miniature Bulldogs.[9] The dogs became popular in France and a trade in imported small Bulldogs was created, with breeders in England sending over Bulldogs that they considered to be too small, or with faults such as ears that stood up. By 1860, there were few miniature Bulldogs left in England, such was their popularity in France and due to the exploits of specialist dog exporters.[10]

The small Bulldog type gradually became thought of as a breed, and received a name, the Bouledogue Francais.[10] This Francization of the English name is also a contraction of the words “boule” (ball) and “dogue” (mastiff or molosser). The dogs were highly fashionable and were sought after by society ladies and Parisian prostitutes alike, as well as creatives such as artists, writers, and fashion designers.[10] However, records were not kept of the breed’s development as it diverged further away from its original Bulldog roots. As it changed, terrier and Pug stock may have been brought in to develop traits such as the breed’s long straight ears, and the roundness of their eyes.[10]

From wikipedia: The Rottweiler (UK /ˈrɒtvaɪlə/ or /ˈrɒtwaɪlə/) or (US /rɒtwaɪlər/)[1][2] is a breed of domestic dog, regarded as medium-to-large[3][4] or large.[5][6]The dogs were known in German as Rottweiler Metzgerhund, meaning Rottweil butchers’ dogs, because one of their uses was to herd livestock and pull carts laden with butchered meat to market.[3] This continued until the mid-19th century when railways caused droving to be replaced with herding. Rottweilers are now used as search and rescue dogs, as guide dogs for the blind, as guard dogs and police dogs.[7]

The Rottweiler is one of the oldest of herding breeds.[8] With a history possibly dating back to the Roman Empire,[9] the Rottweiler may be a descendant of ancient Roman drover dogs; a mastiff-type dog that was a dependable, rugged dog with great intelligence and guarding instincts. During their quest to conquer Europe, the Roman legions traveled in large numbers across the continent. The non-existence of refrigeration meant the soldiers had to bring herds of cattle for food. The drover dogs were used to keep the herds of cattle together and to guard the herds at night. Around A.D. 74 the Roman army travelled across the Alps and into what is now southern Germany. For the next two centuries the Roman drover dogs were continually used in herding and driving cattle for trade even after the Romans were driven out of the area by the Swabians.[10]

A town in this region was eventually given the name Rottweil.[10] It became an important trade center and the descendants of the Roman cattle dogs proved their worth by driving the cattle to market and protecting the cattle from robbers and wild animals.[10] The dogs are said to have been used by traveling butchers at markets during the Middle Ages to guard money pouches tied around their necks.[11] The dogs eventually came to be called Rottweiler Metzgerhunds, or butcher dogs.[10] As railroads became the primary method for moving stock to market, the need for the breed declined, as did the number of Rottweilers. The number of Rottweilers diminished so severely that by 1882 in a dog show in Heilbronn, there was only one very poor representative of the breed.[10]

The buildup to World War I saw a great demand for police dogs, and that led to a revival of interest in the Rottweiler. During the First and Second World Wars, Rottweilers were put into service in various roles, including as messenger, ambulance, draught, and guard dogs.

The Deutscher Rottweiler-Klub (DRK, German Rottweiler Club), the first Rottweiler club in Germany, was founded on 13 January 1914, and followed by the creation of the Suddeutscher Rottweiler-Klub (SDRK, South German Rottweiler Club) on 27 April 1915 and eventually became the IRK (International Rottweiler Club). The DRK counted around 500 Rottweilers, and the SDRK 3000 Rottweilers. The goals of the two clubs were different. The DRK aimed to produce working dogs and did not emphasise the morphology of the Rottweiler.

The various German Rottweiler Clubs amalgamated to form the Allgemeiner Deutscher Rottweiler Klub (ADRK, General German Rottweiler Club) in 1921. This was officially recorded in the register of clubs and associations at the district court of Stuttgart on 27 January 1924.[12] The ADRK is recognised worldwide as the home club of the Rottweiler.

In 1931 the Rottweiler was officially recognised by the American Kennel Club.[13] In 1936, Rottweilers were exhibited in Britain at Crufts. In 1966, a separate register was opened for the breed. In fact, in the mid-1990s, the popularity of the Rottweiler reached an all-time high with it being the most registered dog by the American Kennel Club.[14] In 2013, the American Kennel Club ranked the Rottweiler as the 9th most popular purebreed in the United States.[15]

The portrayal of Rottweilers as vicious or malevolently aggressive dogs in several fictional films and TV series, most notably in The Omen, along with sensationalist press coverage, has created a negative image of the breed.[citation needed] However, some films and television shows, such as Lethal Weapon 3, the 1998 film Half Baked, and the hit HBO show Entourage, have portrayed Rottweilers in a positive light. They are also featured in the children’s book series Good Dog, Carl by Alexandra Day.

Pitbull Dogs 101 Facts About American Pitbull Terrier #Dog #Pitbull

The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is a dog breed.[2] It is a medium-sized, solidly-built, short-haired dog whose early ancestors came from the British Isles. A member of the molosser breed group, both the American Staffordshire Terrier and the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) were bred from the same lineage, but received different names from the two American kennel clubs; American Staffordshire Terrier was the name given by the American Kennel Club (AKC), and American Pit Bull Terrier by the United Kennel Club (UKC). When compared with the English Staffordshire Bull Terrier (another breed within the type commonly called pit bulls), the American Pit Bull Terrier is larger by margins of 6–8 inches (15–20 cm) in height and 25–35 pounds (11–16 kg) in weight. The American Pit Bull Terrier varies in size. Males normally are about 18-19 inches (45-48 cm) in height and around 35-63 pounds (15-29 kg) in weight. Females are normally around 17-18 inches (43-45 cm) in height and 30-57 pounds (13-26 kg) in weight.

The American Pit Bull is medium-sized, and has a short coat and smooth well-defined muscle structure. Its eyes are round to almond-shaped, and its ears are small to medium in length, typically half prick or rose in carriage. The tail is slightly thick and tapers to a point. The coat is glossy, smooth, short, and stiff to the touch. The accepted coat color can vary widely, but, both the AKC and UKC do not recognize merle coloring. Color patterns that are typical in the breed are spotted, brindled, solid, and with points.

Twelve countries in Europe, as well as Australia, Canada, Ecuador, Malaysia, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, and Venezuela have enacted some form of breed-specific legislation on pit bull-type dogs, including American Pit Bull Terriers, ranging from outright bans to restrictions and conditions on ownership. The state of New South Wales in Australia places restrictions on the breed, including mandatory sterilization. The breed is banned in the United Kingdom, in the Canadian province of Ontario,[3] and in many locations in the United States.

Modern day celebrity Pit Bull owners include Jessica Biel, Alicia Silverstone, Linda Blair, Jessica Alba, Jamie Foxx, Rachael Ray, and Dr. Phil – pitbull terriers

From wikipedia: The Miniature Schnauzer is a breed of small dog of the Schnauzer type that originated in Germany in the mid-to-late 19th century. Miniature Schnauzers developed from crosses between the Standard Schnauzer and one or more smaller breeds such as the Poodle and Affenpinscher, as farmers bred a small dog that was an efficient ratting dog. They are described as “spunky”[1] but aloof dogs, with good guarding tendencies without some guard dogs’ predisposition to bite. Miniature Schnauzers are recognized in three colors internationally: solid black, black and silver, and a color known as ‘salt and pepper’. There is a controversial fourth color variant in Miniature Schnauzers, pure white, which is not recognized universally.

The breed remains one of the most popular worldwide, primarily for its temperament and relatively small size. As of 2013 it is the 17th most popular breed in the U.S.

Miniature Schnauzers have a very square-shaped build, measuring 13 to 14 inches (33 to 36 cm) tall and weighing 10 to 15 pounds (4.5 to 6.8 kg) for females and 11 to 18 pounds (5.0 to 8.2 kg) for males.[1] They have a double coat, with wiry exterior fur and a soft undercoat. In show trim, the coat is kept short on the body, but the fur on the ears, legs, belly, and face is retained.[10] Recognized coat colors are black, salt and pepper, black and silver, and pure white.[11]

Miniature Schnauzers are often described as non-moulting dogs, and while this is not entirely true, their shedding is minimal and generally unnoticeable. They are characterized by a rectangular head with bushy beard, mustache and eyebrows; teeth that meet in a “scissor bite”; oval and dark colored eyes; and v-shaped, natural forward-folding ears (when cropped, the ears point straight upward and come to a sharp point). Their tails are naturally thin and short, and may be docked (where permitted). They will also have very straight, rigid front legs, and feet that are short and round (so-called “cat feet”) with thick, black pads.[5][12]

Docking of tails and cropping of ears has become a controversial practice, especially for non-working dogs, and is now illegal or restricted in a number of countries worldwide.[13]

The earliest records surrounding development of the Standard Schnauzer in Germany come from the late 19th century. They were originally bred to be medium-sized farm dogs in Germany, equally suited to ratting, herding, and guarding property.[1] As time passed, farmers bred the Standard Schnauzer into a smaller, more compact size for ratting by combining it with the Affenpinscher and Miniature Poodle.[1][3] The first recorded Miniature Schnauzer appeared in 1888, and the first exhibition was held in 1899.[3][4]

The AKC accepted registration of the new breed in 1926, two years after Miniature Schnauzers were introduced to the United States.[5][4] They were originally known as Wirehaired Pinschers.[6] International Kennel Club classifications vary; in the United Kingdom and Australia they fall within the Utility Group, while in Canada they are in the Working Group. In the AKC the Miniature Schnauzer is classed with the terriers.[4] It was recognized by the United Kennel Club in 1948 and also classed as a terrier.[7] The start of the modern Miniature Schnauzer is generally considered to begin with Ch. Dorem Display, the first Miniature Schnauzer to win Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.[8] He was born 5 April 1945 and lived to be nearly fourteen.[8] Almost every living Miniature Schnauzer in America can trace its lineage back to Dorem Display.[8]

Miniature Schnauzers were the 11th most popular breed in the U.S. in 2008, falling to 16th most popular in 2015.[9]

top 10 expensive dogs
1. Lowchen – $7,000
Also known as the Little Lion Dog, the Lowchen is one of the most rare dog breeds in the world. New registrations of this dog every year number only in the hundreds. The modern sources of this breed originate from Germany, Belgium and France. It is a very friendly dog and possesses a regal look like the lion. It has the right-sized head that is characterized by a wide skull, short muzzle, round eyes and pendulant ears. It has a long and flowing coat and can live up to 14 years. It is active and very playful. Combined with its intelligence, it makes a good pet dog.

2. Rottweiler – $7,000
The Rottweiler is a fairly common breed, but champion lines used for dog shows may fetch up to $7,000. It was originally used for herding cattle, though it eventually evolved to become a multi-faceted dog that can be used for search-and-rescue missions, guide for the blind or as police and guard dogs. It is generally good-natured and placid, though it may not be welcoming of strangers because of its territorial and watchdog instincts.

3. Samoyed – $6,500
Also known as the Bjelkier, the Samoyed originally comes from Siberia where it was used for herding and pulling sleds. It has a happy expression and a friendly disposition, making it an excellent pet for kids. It is also very playful, though its herding instinct means that it has a tendency to pull in a different direction. Do not attempt to make a Samoyed a guard dog because aggressiveness is not in its blood. It can make for a good watchdog, however, because it is diligent enough to bark at anything or anyone that approaches its territories
4. German Shepherd – $6,500
One of the most registered dog breeds, the German Shepherd is a large dog that is very loyal and protective of its owners. It originated in Germany in 1899 and it was initially used for herding, guarding and protecting sheep. It is very active and self-assured. It is known for its intelligence, as it has the ability to learn a command after only five repetitions and can obey an order around 95 percent of the time. It is always willing to learn and eager to have a purpose. While it is not the type that will be immediately friendly with strangers, a German Shepherd is highly obedient. It makes excellent guard dogs and is highly sought after by the police and military to help them in their search missions.

5. Canadian Eskimo Dog – $6,000
This dog is indigenous to North America. It is one of the oldest purebred domestic dogs in the continent. It is powerful and athletic, with an impressive built and imposing appearance. It shares the look of an American wolf, though the dog’s tail has more curves and is generally shorter. It is known to be loyal, tough, alert, brave and intelligent. Its affectionate and gentle nature enables it to have a strong bond with its owner. The Canadian Eskimo Dog also has a strong prey drive brought about by its hunting instinct.

6. Tibetan Mastiff – $5,000
The Tibetan Mastiff is a primitive breed that originated in Central Asia. It was originally used for herding and guarding. It is intelligent, powerful and strong-willed. It is not friendly to strangers, so owners must train the dog to socialize. It is known to be tenacious, as it was originally used to confront predators in the wilds. It is nocturnal in nature, meaning it can sleep the whole day to allow it to be aware and alert at night. It makes a good guard and watchdog because it would bark at the slightest sounds made in the dark.

7. Chinese Crested Hairless – $5,000
The Chinese Crested hairless dog is a small dog that has a single coat of fur. This is against the Chinese Crested powderpuff that has double coating. Both can appear in the same litter. The hairless variety may be a true hairless that has no body hair at all or may be a hairy hairless that possesses a full coat if left untrimmed. It is susceptible to pimples, dryness and sunburn.

8. Akita – $3,500
The Akita has two main varieties, the Japanese and the American versions. The Japanese strain may come in white, brindle, sesame, fawn or red, while the American strain can come in any color. It is big, strong and dominant, thus making it inadvisable for first-time dog owners. It can be aggressive towards other dogs unless it is properly trained to socialize. While it may be reserved to strangers and territorial in nature, the Akita is also known to be loyal and affectionate to its owner.

9. Pharaoh Hound – $3,000
The Pharaoh Hound is normally linked to ancient Egypt, but it is actually native to Malta where it is traditionally used by the Maltese for hunting rabbits. It is graceful, elegant, powerful and athletic.

After some searching, we found this cabin style dog house on the Weather King’s website. The company that makes these spectacular dog houses is called J.C. Metal Building Sales. They first started by creating storage sheds, barns and lofted cabins. The are stationed in Deland, Florida and now make some of the best dog houses you could create. Each house can be customized with energy saving materials, AC, and other amenities. This model simply says price upon request, but since there are a deck and a hot tub, we think this pad is probably too pricey for our budget.

#7 – A Georgetown Home
Another great find from the world renowned artists at Beyond the Crate is the Georgetown dog house. The home is modeled after the homes in Georgetown. The amenities in this house are running water, heat, air conditioning, and lights. This one is slightly cheaper than other models with its price tag starting at only $10,000.

#6 – The Victorian
This Victorian style dog house is spacious enough for three or four dogs to roam and have plenty of room. This dog house is a replica of the owner’s larger Victorian mansion. The owner commissioned the project after a large owl almost carried off one of her Pomeranians. The entire unit cost her a cool $20,000, but it is large enough for her to hangout as well.

Beyond the Crate is the designer genius behind this extravagant home. It is called the Celebrity Hacienda Dog House and is modeled after some of the celebrity homes in the hills of California. This house is custom made with many different features to choose from such as running water, lights and air conditioning. The price reflects the different amenities you’ve had added, but this Californian mansion starts at $30,000.

#3 – The Taj Mahal
This fancy dog house was clearly modeled after the famous palace, the Taj Mahal. It sets you back $40,000 but giving man’s best friend the very best is the only thing on most pet owners’ minds, even if it costs a fortune.

#2 – Paris Hilton’s Dog House
Everyone knows this heiress gets exactly what she wants, including the most extravagant dog house for her many pups. The dogs reside in a two-story Italian style villa completed with roof tiles and wrought iron railings on the second-floor balcony. Inside you’ll find multiple dog beds, food and water stations, heat and air conditioning. Outside they have their own little fenced in yard complete with a tree to do their business. Money is certainly not something Paris worries about, which is probably why this dog mansion cost $325,000, she spared no expense.

#1 – Living in Luxury
Each and every one of these dog houses is luxurious and pricey beyond compare. This dog house, however, takes the cake as being the most expensive dog house in the world. It was commissioned by a surgeon in England back in the beginning of 2008. It is for her two Great Danes and costs just over $417,000. It includes everything you could image from sheepskin-lined, temperature-controlled beds, a 52-inch plasma screen tv, a $250,000 sound system to automatic dispensers, a saline treatment spa bath, and a retina scanner to keep out the common riff-raff.
