Female puppy for adoption – Kathputli

We received a call for an injured puppy cowering under a truck, refusing to come out. She was in so much pain, but did not fight us :'( She had a very deep gash on her leg which healed up pretty quickly thanks to medical attention and a lot of love and affection. Soon enough, she was completely fine!

And now, she waits. She waits and waits for her forever family to take her home.

Will you give this sweetie a second shot at life? Share this video far and wide so that Kathputli can reach her family!

Navy Seals abide by a code that no man is left behind. Termite-hunting ants abide by a similar code. A new study reveals that after a raid on a termite nest, the injured ants are cared for by their comrades. If kept by themselves, 80 percent of injured ants died. But if cared for by their nest-mates for even an hour, only a tenth died. Another finding of the study reveals how the ants prioritize who gets cared for and who doesn’t. In human health care, doctors decide which patients need to be helped the most. With ants, it’s the exact opposite. The injured ants themselves decide if they should be treated or not. When no help was in sight, injured ants made a beeline for the nest. But when nest-mates were near, they stumbled and fell, appearing “more injured” as a way to attract aid. But the ants play up their injuries only if they sensed that their problems were minor enough to be treated. If ants were mortally injured, they refused to cooperate, flailing their legs around when probed or picked up, forcing their helpers to abandon them. The mortally wounded ants choose to die rather than have energy and resources wasted on their futile rehabilitation. This discovery marks the first time non-human animals have been observed systematically nursing their wounded back to health.

Casting a Fire Ant Colony with Molten Aluminum (Cast #043)

An incredible metal structure is made by pouring molten aluminum into a fire ant colony. The resulting cast is huge, weighing 17.9 lbs. and reaching a depth of 18 inches.

See detailed pictures of the resulting cast on the Anthill Art website at http://www.anthillart.com/castings/043/

If you like my videos, then subscribe to my channel here. I’m also on twitter and instagram.

These are the red imported fire ants (RIFA) which are harmful to the environment and their nests are exterminated by the millions in the United States using poisons, gasoline and fire, boiling water, and very rarely molten aluminum.

From Wikipedia: “Researchers have also been experimenting with extreme temperature change to exterminate RIFAs [red imported fire ants], such as injecting liquid nitrogen or pressurized steam into RIFA nests. Besides using hot steam, pouring boiling water into ant mounds has been found effective in exterminating their nests.”

I did a casual survey and found that I have at least 120 of these colonies within an area of approximately three acres. http://www.anthillart.com/info/fire-ant-survey/

Mother Polar Bear, Desperate for Food, Tests Walrus | National Geographic

Travis Wilkinson and his family were on a sailing trip in Norway’s Svalbard archipelago, far north of the Arctic Circle. In late July, 2015, they were traveling through Hinlopen Strait, west of the largest island, Spitsbergen—an impossible route some summers, when pack ice blocks passage. But that summer, ice was especially sparse, making hunting harder for polar bears. These apex predators favor waiting at the sea ice’s edge, striking seals as they approach. A few days earlier, the Wilkinson family had been farther north, near the ice. There, bears looked healthy. But the scene just after midnight on July 23 was desperate. Mother and cub were struggling, skin hanging loose. According to Jon Aars, of the Norwegian Polar Institute, the cub, seven or eight months old, was likely to die if its mother didn’t eat soon. She probably wasn’t lactating. Wilkinson saw the bear sniff the air, picking up something of interest. This thin female couldn’t attack a healthy, full-grown walrus. A carcass would solve their problem. If the walrus were weak or sick, predation might be an option. But that walrus was alive and well. The situation was unworkable. The search for food went on.

Animal lover who adopted a ROOK says it rules the roost

Breaking News Today
Animal-lover who adopted a disabled ROOK says it now rules the roost – sleeping in her room, hiding credit cards and jewellery and even jealous of her husband.
An animal-lover who adopted a disabled rood says it now rules her home by sleeping in her room, hiding her belongings and becoming jealous of her husband.

Helen Motteram took the injured bird in after realising it wasn’t able to fly and wouldn’t survive in the wild.

The rook is now part of the family, but Helen admits he is ‘needy’ and has ‘separation issues’ – and wants attention all the time.

She says the bird steals her phone charger, pens, credit cards from her purse, and jewellery and also rips up her daily newspaper and pecks pictures off the wall.

And the rook – nicknamed Russell Crow – even starts pecking her husband Tristan if Helen is talking to him and not her pet.

Every night Helen shouts ‘bed time’ and the rook hops up stairs to her bedroom where he sleeps.

Pet behaviourist Helen, who has built him an aviary in the garden, says the bird has grown in confidence and now rules the roost at her house.

She said: ‘Rooks are very needy and they form very strong bonds, so he sees me as one of his own.

‘But they’ll only bond with one person at a time, so he does get jealous if I’m trying to watch TV with my husband – he’ll give me a nasty peck on my foot or come and sit on my shoulder.
