Why renewables can’t save the planet | Michael Shellenberger | TEDxDanubia

Environmentalists have long promoted renewable energy sources like solar panels and wind farms to save the climate. But what about when those technologies destroy the environment? In this provocative talk, Time Magazine “Hero of the Environment” and energy expert, Michael Shellenberger explains why solar and wind farms require so much land for mining and energy production, and an alternative path to saving both the climate and the natural environment. Michael Shellenberger is a Time Magazine Hero of the Environment and President of Environmental Progress, a research and policy organization. A lifelong environmentalist, Michael changed his mind about nuclear energy and has helped save enough nuclear reactors to prevent an increase in carbon emissions equivalent to adding more than 10 million cars to the road. He lives in Berkeley, California. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

Dreamtime Travelling through the Australian continent – documentary

Travelling through the Australian continent, one is often appalled by the living conditions of the Aborigine people. Having lost touch with their culture and traditions, many of them have become outcasts or alcoholics who aimlessly wander the streets of the Australian cities. From the early 1800s to the late 1960s, Aborigines were gradually deprived of their land by the white man who used it for herding, cropping, and mineral extraction. Forced to leave their homelands, Aborigines were often separated from their children, who were sent to live with white families or to boarding schools, in an attempt to teach them the white man’s values. Today 390,000 Aborigines account for less than 3% of the current Australian population. Learn how they are beginning to find their place in a society which has excluded them for so long. Meet and share the life of Aborigines who through art, dancing, hunting, work, or spirituality, are finding ways to better their future.

Thank you, I’m currently working on a video series which will expose and verify Google shadow banning videos. I perceive and believe in the imminence of Google being seized under Eminent domain, perhaps under marshal law circumstances and going to U.S militarily or Government control. If Google wasn’t anti-Trump shadow banning my channel content, which has about 23,000 subscribers(Should have over a million by now) This new video just has 42 views in 4 days, but if it was treated fairly, many of my videos would likely have gone viral. Google should get a multi-trillion dollar Antitrust class action lawsuit and judgement against them, that when factually exposed, the judgement should easily and swiftly be upheld against all challenge!
Google deceptively partners, causing it’s Adsense partners to invest untold time, effort, and talent for many years working part or full time for GOOGLE in a fake and politically biased partnership, investing effort and talent into creating product and content for their invisible partners of straw. Many have likely lost their lives, spouses and untold other riches, and treasures, and even blood and flesh in accidents and other misfortunes while pursuing Youtube and Google content and pipe dreams, never knowing that they were mere hens being guarded by sAtanic wolves. These World running Genocidal sAtanic meter maids of hell are against non nEphilim humans by birth right. We are the deceived human class, who are largely naive to the truth and are not blue blood and “in the Know” and then verified down to the nEphilim queens and kings family tree! So we, the heirs of Earth, trust that they, the Evil, the deceived and the nEphilims, including the Google snakes are soon destined to be torn out of God’s green Earth and tossed into Sheol. The antitrust class action suite should be filed on behalf of those betrayed by Google and YOUTUBE, those deceived are many, foremost are the advertisers and content creators that are being charged to place their expensive state of the art commercials and ads on ghost channels like mine, ETERNALBLACKPROJECT is a creative common channel, which,, BTW, was recently rated in December of 2018 on Social blade at about #7,533rd most influential in the world, and the world statistically has 4.1 billion active Internet users, also as of December 2018. So Google partners with me and then sells commercials, it then has Adsense strategize and place ads in commission onto my channel, and countless other shadow banned ghost channels, effectively duping Adsense and Social Blade rankings as well! They deceive everyone like the secret society genocidally driven snakes that they are, causing billions in lost revenue, likely on a daily basis. This effectively losing the creators of those videos and masses of others working in these orbits blindly trusting in GOOGLE. My videos are not promoted by Google as contracted and they only get the name minimum of views daily mostly off of end screen traffic and certain other web hosting sites that have featured a few of my non political videos. Google is doomed, it is Prophecy, It is written!

Cashless society leads to enslavement – Lionel

The city of Philadelphia has banned cashless stores and other US cities are considering similar bills, calling it “an issue of fairness.” Legal and media analyst Lionel of Lionel Media joins News.Views.Hughes to share his insights, arguing that cashless stores “have nothing to do but cash or convenience” but are yet another step toward RFID implantation in humans, wherein “WE become the chip… an organic molecule with a carbon shell… a transmitter.”

Points on Perfectionism | Laura Dupaix | Hilliard Weaver Middle School

Through real life examples and helpful advice, Laura addresses the issue of perfectionism, as it can be a somewhat debilitating trait to have.

Laura is an 8th grader who is a self-perfectionist. She enjoys reading, sleeping, talking with friends, and music. As a perfectionist she has the following advice: set fair limits for yourself to keep your perfectionism in check.

TED-Ed, TED’s education initiative, inspires tomorrow’s TED speakers and future leaders by supporting students in discovering, developing and sharing their big ideas in the form of short, TED-style talks. In the TED-Ed Student Talk program, students work together to discuss and celebrate creative ideas through TED-Ed’s flexible curriculum.  Check out https://bit.ly/2pHbsEp if you’re interested in getting started.

Doves chicks die in nest; How the parents reacted

FURTHER UPDATE (June 5, 2015): I received this message from John, a biologist. I think this answers most of your questions. Thanks John!!

“Goodpasture had the answer in hand when he examined the nest and saw the thousands of mites. Both rodents and birds that reuse their nests have a chronic problem of mite buildup that can be fatal to the young. Both scavenger and parasitic mites can rapidly increase in the warm nest in a short time. And as the nest is gradually increased over time, more mite survive over the unused time. Mites will develop on organic materials available from both adult and young feces, bits of food, nesting material that may include adult saliva used as an adhesive and young chicks. Mites are too small for the adults to see or remove even if they did. Towards the end of the video it appears that the male was viewing the remaining chick as it was swarming with mites, trying to figure out what was occurring. Naked chicks and rodents are fair game for rapidly developing mite populations. Keep in mind why there are bird baths and why adult birds dust themselves on the ground: removal of mites and other ectoparasites.
Those who provide platforms for nesting birds for pleasure or photography should remove the nesting material after the fledge and provide a small amount of similar material on the platform as an incentive for a return.
The world is beautiful as your photography records, but we know it also has many other dimensions that are not pleasant but very real. Now that you know I am hopeful that your (doves) fledge rate greatly increases. Thank you for letting me have a say.”

Thanks again to John. Feel free to comment but keep it clean, relevant and professional.

2014 UPDATE: Let me try to reply to some of the comments made. First, I don’t know WHY they died. I NEVER interfered with the birds. My best guess is disease. There were literally thousands of mites all over the nest. The lamp had nothing to do with their deaths. Before this, the doves had raised two successful broods. And AFTER, a pair of robins successfully raise four chicks. As for the music… get over it!! I wasn’t able to capture much sound so I used music as best I could to capture the mood and emotion of what’s happening. Finally, I’m kind of shocked a level of immaturity of people’s posts. Come on!! Keep it clean and relevant! One more thing: a LOT of people commented on the birds “stepping” on the young. I’ve noticed this throughout all of the different birds that have raised young. It doesn’t appear to injure the chicks, but I agree it does seem odd. I have many more hours of other bird activities. I just need to find the time to edit them down to the best and most interesting moments.

After raising two successful broods, a pair of mourning doves had their chicks unexpectedly die just days after hatching. I happened to get video the day before and after they hatched. A few days later when I noticed one had died, I set up the video camera to capture the aftermath and how the parents reacted. Truly fascinating view of the natural behavior of how the dove parents handled the situation.

Located just 800 miles from the North Pole on the island of Spitsbergen, the Soviet-era ghosttown of Pyramiden is one of the northernmost permanent settlements in the world. The site was first developed as a mining village in 1936, after the Soviets acquired the rights to mine the local coalfields. Although Pyramiden was abandoned in 1998, it remains remarkably well preserved due to the frigid Arctic climate.

Travis Wilkinson and his family were on a sailing trip in Norway’s Svalbard archipelago, far north of the Arctic Circle. In late July, 2015, they were traveling through Hinlopen Strait, west of the largest island, Spitsbergen—an impossible route some summers, when pack ice blocks passage. But that summer, ice was especially sparse, making hunting harder for polar bears. These apex predators favor waiting at the sea ice’s edge, striking seals as they approach. A few days earlier, the Wilkinson family had been farther north, near the ice. There, bears looked healthy. But the scene just after midnight on July 23 was desperate. Mother and cub were struggling, skin hanging loose. According to Jon Aars, of the Norwegian Polar Institute, the cub, seven or eight months old, was likely to die if its mother didn’t eat soon. She probably wasn’t lactating. Wilkinson saw the bear sniff the air, picking up something of interest. This thin female couldn’t attack a healthy, full-grown walrus. A carcass would solve their problem. If the walrus were weak or sick, predation might be an option. But that walrus was alive and well. The situation was unworkable. The search for food went on.

What if He Falls? The Terrifying Reality Behind Filming “Free Solo” | Op-Docs

In 2017, when Alex Honnold made his stunning free-solo ascent of Yosemite’s El Capitan, he was taking an unimaginable risk: nearly three thousand feet of climbing without any ropes or safety equipment. But was the climb made even riskier by the filmmakers who accompanied him?

In “What if He Falls?” filmmakers Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin take us inside the process of documenting Honnold’s quest for climbing glory — and the ethical calculus of filming a friend who could, with the slip of a finger, plummet to his death.

President Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort was sentenced to nearly four years in prison for financial fraud charges — far less than the prosecutors’ recommendation of up to 24 years. CBS News Washington correspondent Paula Reid reports on the decision, and legal analyst Rikki Klieman joins CBSN to discuss the judge’s ruling.

11 Things Your Cat Doesn’t Like About You

Why is your cat sad or mad at you? If your cat isn’t happy, no one in the house is allowed to be either. Sometimes we cat owners, with all our affection and loyalty, actually do more harm than good. At least that’s what we recently learned, and we’re here to spread the message!

Did you know, for example, that most cats just hate strangers? They see any other creatures of their kind as competition for food, toys, and love. Or have you ever noticed they don’t like belly rubs? A cat’s stomach is its most vulnerable area, and protecting it is a basic instinct. So be gentle and respectful!

SUMMARY:
– Cats feel insecure when you pick them up and being hugged is like being trapped to them. It can easily cause stress or aggression, so think twice before expressing love the human way!
– If you don’t give your little one the attention or food they want when they want it, be prepared for constant meowing or pawing at your leg. Cats have their own schedule that you’ll never really understand, and they like to be the one to decide when it’s “play with human” time.
– Some cats are okay with their human clipping their nails, but most won’t have any of it! It’s an incredibly risky procedure, and their post-surgery wounds can easily get infected.
– It’s a universal truth that cats, with maybe a few rare exceptions, despise water. You see, your house cat’s ancestors lived in Europe, Africa, and China, where they weren’t exposed to much water. So, they didn’t have to learn how to deal with it.
– Cats are extremely territorial, and “your” home is actually your cat’s. And cats don’t like to leave their little kingdom, so a car ride can be emotionally stressful as well.
– You might love 4th of July fireworks, but your cat – not so much. They don’t like any loud noises, whether it be honking cars, the vacuum, hair dryer, and so on.
– Cats are way more like their ancestors that lived in the wild. Those kitties clearly didn’t like feeling something against their fur, restricting their freedom of movement.
– If you see knots or mats in your kitty’s hair, definitely get rid of those. You’ll save your cat from the pain and other nasty things that come with knots, such as fleas, ticks, and rashes.
– Even though cats meow at humans and not other cats, they don’t expect you to meow back! But if you try to meow back, your kitty will be really confused.

11 Strange Cat Behaviors Finally Explained

Everybody knows that cats are utterly adorable. But how to understand your cat better? Dogs wag their tails, run up to you for a hug, and bark boisterously. Cats are more restrained and express their feelings differently. More often than not, their owners can only guess what their furry companions are feeling. Do you know, for example, why your cat always sits on your clothes? Or why cats are always getting into small spaces? We at Bright Side decided it was time to decode all those hidden signals cats give out.

SUMMARY:
– If your cat always bites its nails when grooming itself, you probably have nothing to worry about, since this is basically the feline version of a manicure!
– To their kitty logic, if the water in the bowl moves, then it’s probably alright. That’s why cats are so captivated by tap and toilet water.
– Most cats prefer to sleep in small cozy spaces where it’s difficult to get to them. Things like boxes or sinks make them feel safe and secure.
– If your cat touches your face slightly, it’s simply showing love. Tapping their paws on your face means “Hey I did something, you better clean it up” or “Get up and feed me, please!”
– Even the sweetest little kitten in the world can hiss from time to time, and it’s a clear sign that they’re either frightened or ticked off.
– If your cat ignores you, just let it be. Your pet will definitely appreciate the respect and will love you even more!
– Chewing on plants could be caused by several things. First of all, a lot of cats do it when their tummy is upset or they just wanna eat something with a different texture. Other cats are simply curious or trying to get your attention.
– If your cat has suddenly started hanging out in its litter, it can be a sign of sickness. When accompanied with other red flags like loss of appetite, then this behavior definitely warrants a call to the vet.
– A lot of the time, begging becomes such a routine for cats that they start doing it even when they’re not hungry. Another possible reason is your kitty’s desire for attention and love.
– When you leave the room, they feel vulnerable to predators, so they decide to follow you. And believe it or not, a lot of the time the bathroom is the place where they feel the safest!
– If your cat always sits on your clothes whenever you leave them, you should be kinda flattered because this is how they mark you as a member of their pack!

Why Cats Lie on Their Backs When They See You

While cats have been domesticated pets since the days of Cleopatra, there’s still a lot about them that remains a mystery. Like when they just roll over as you approach them, what’s up with that? Actually, when cats lie on their back and expose their bellies, it’s their way of saying “Hello, human!”! But it’s not the only message a cat sends when it shows you its cute furry little belly.

Today we’re talking about cat behaviors. Why do they expose their belly? Why do they bring you dead animals? Why do they like watching from afar? There are plenty of other things they do that just have you scratching your head in confusion. Let’s figure out together!

Sitting in the most random places 7:22
Bursting with energy in the middle of the night 8:10

Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/

SUMMARY:
– Be careful not to invade your cat’s space unless you know they love belly rubs and like to be touched. Look for other clues like their ears and tail. If their tail is moving back and forth and their ears are set back, this means they’d rather be left alone.
– When a cat weaves through your legs and rubs its head on you, it’s called bunting, and it involves a release of pheromones from a cat’s head. Basically, it’s as if they’re leaving their scent on you to make sure other cats know that you belong to them.
– Have you ever been snuggling with your kitty when they start pressing their little paws into you over and over again? When cats do this sort of bread-kneading motion, it’s actually leftover from their kitten days when they used to nurse.
– Has your cat ever made prolonged eye contact with you while blinking really slowly every few seconds? It’s awkward, I know! But this is actually a way for your cat to show you affection!
– If you find that your cat is watching you from afar but never wants to engage, this could be a sign that they’re anxious or even mad at you.
– Similar to how a dog urinates on things to mark their territory (which cats can do too sometimes, by the way), cats like to scratch furniture to show others what’s theirs.
– If your cat’s teeth are chattering really fast, it doesn’t mean they have the chills. It’s actually related to a natural instinct to hunt.
– Many animal behaviorists believe that your cat shares a successful kill with you as a way of thanking you for your care. Cats also do this in hopes that you’ll see how good they are, and you’ll pay more attention to them!
– Cats seem to love squeezing into small spaces, even though it often looks terribly uncomfortable. They do this because it helps them feel protected and safe.
– Many house cats hold in a lot of energy during the day and since they have nocturnal instincts, they often go nuts in the middle of the night.

10 Most Dangerous Cat Breeds That Are Still Awww

Cats are one of the most popular pets in the world. And they can be just as playful, cuddly, and friendly as their canine counterparts! Are you a cat person? Are you considering getting one? Well, you probably should leave the following 10 dangerous cat breeds off your list of potential candidates.

TIMESTAMPS:
Pallas’s cat 0:58
The Savannah 2:14
The Chausie 3:40
The Jungle cat 443
The Abyssinian 5:43
The British Shorthair 6:52
The Maine Coon 7:51
The Mekong Bobtail 8:48
The Siamese 9:43
The Bobcat 10:55

Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music

SUMMARY:
– The distinct trait of Pallas’s cat is its un-cat-like round eyes and pupils. The important question is: can you tame this kitty? The short answer is: no.
– The Savannah is a crossbreed between the African Serval and your common domestic house cat. It has a long neck, body, and legs with dark-brown to black spots all over its coat.
– Also known as the “Nile cat,” this breed is a cross between an Abyssinian domestic cat and a Jungle cat. Its wild ancestor, the Jungle cat, is the very one that the ancient Egyptians worshipped!
– The Jungle cat’s scientific name is Felis chaus, but it also goes by the “Swamp Lynx,” Swamp Cat,” or “Reed Cat.” While the name would have you think otherwise, this cat does not live in the jungle but rather in wetlands with dense vegetation.
– The Aby is one of the oldest domesticated cat breeds. Believed to originate from Abyssinia, which is modern-day Ethiopia, most experts nowadays site Egypt as the breed’s place of origin.
– If you’re familiar with the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland or Puss in Boots in Shrek, then you’ve definitely met some of the on-screen representations of the British Shorthair. This breed can weigh up to 20 pounds and lives up to about 20 years.
– The Maine Coon is a large breed that can weigh up to 20 pounds or more. It also received celebrity status as “Mrs. Norris” in the Harry Potter movies.
– The Mekong Bobtail can weigh up to 10 pounds and has a lifespan of up to 18 years. And, of course, we can’t forget to mention this breed’s most unique feature: its tiny little bobbed tail!
– The Siamese is the most talkative and opinionated cat out there! It demands to be entertained and showered with attention 24/7. It can be pretty cautious around strangers and outright naughty when left alone at home!
– Known as Lnyx rufus in the scientific community, the Bobcat is a nocturnal animal with a natural habitat in the wild. Yet some people are brave (or silly) enough to make them pets.
