The Buzz: Fire and Rescue Station 26 Ribbon Cutting

Prince William County’s newest fire station sets the standard for fire and rescue stations in the county, according to Board of County Supervisor’s Chairman Corey Stewart, who spoke during a ribbon cutting ceremony for the 17,960-square-foot station at 5026 Davis Ford Road.

“This station is a symbol of the great work and the dedication of all the hard-working men and women in our Department of Fire and Rescue. We have one of the best departments in the country; it’s leading the way,” said Stewart. “The Board of Supervisors, each and every one of us, is very, very proud of the hard work and the dedication of all of our employees, especially those here at the department of fire and rescue.”

Station 26 is located in the Occoquan District and crews are expected to make 1,300 fire and rescue emergencies during the first year of operation. It will also fill a four-minute response time for the area from Lake Ridge to Buckhall, according to Prince William Fire and Rescue Chief Kevin McGee. “The station is a state-of-the-art facility that will assist the Department of Fire and Rescue to provide outstanding emergency service to the surrounding community for many, many years to come.”

The new station has three apparatus bays to house an engine and an Advanced Life Support medic unit. In addition, the station includes sleeping quarters, a kitchen, dayroom and physical fitness room for 27 fire and rescue personnel.

Occoquan District Supervisor Ruth Anderson also spoke at the ribbon cutting ceremony and said that personnel at the station answered their first call within 90 minutes of its official opening on Sept. 30.

“We welcome you to this neighborhood. This area has been well-served by the Department of Fire and Rescue, career firefighters by day and volunteers firefighters by night, but we need station 26,” said Anderson. “We love it that you are here. We know you’re here to serve and we thank you for your expertise, your willingness to serve in this very important capacity.”

McGee said the area will be a “safer place because of this new fire and rescue station and because of the fire and rescue members who will serve here with dedication.”
