Animal rescue: Cat thrown off Florida bridge rescued by local boat captain – TomoNews

DESTIN, FLORIDA — A charter boat captain made an unexpected catch when he rescued a drowning cat off the coast of Florida last Thursday.

According to Northwest Florida Daily News, Jordan Smith, 35, was piloting his boat near the northwest side of the bridge to pick up a group for a fishing trip, that is when Smith saw something fly off Marler Bridge. He initially thought somebody had thrown a bag of trash into the water.

When the object started moving, Smith then thought it was an otter. But once it started swimming in his direction, Jordan realised it was actually a cat that desperately needed help. Smith immediately scooped the black feline out of water, despite the fact that his boat bumped into the bridge a couple of times during the rescue.

After being saved, the poor feline reportedly grabbed a tight hold of Smith’s arm until they were all the way back to shore.

Smith later contacted law enforcement about the incident, but the case is inactive as there’s no significant evidence that the cat had been thrown off the bridge.

Smith plans to adopt the kitty and wants to name her “Miracle”.

Airplane horror stories: Air Transat plane stuck on runway for 6 hours, 911 called – TomoNews

OTTAWA, CANADA — Angry airline passengers are demanding an explanation after they were forced to stay on board a hot plane for six hours with nothing to eat or Air Transatdrink.

More than 300 people were on Air Transat flight 157 from Brussels to Montreal on Monday, when it was diverted to Ottawa because of thunderstorms, the Washington Post reported.

Passengers said they were not allowed to get off the plane, even when the air conditioning stopped working and they ran out of food and water.

When the plane landed, the crew reportedly said they would stop to refuel for half-an-hour or so. But four hours later, and with the jet still stuck on the runway, the power went out … leaving everyone both figuratively and literally in the dark.

Transat somehow managed to get the lights back on, but with no sign of an end to the sweaty situation, at least one passenger called 911.

Police, paramedics and the airport’s emergency response team arrived and distributed water.

Six hours after it landed in Ottawa, the plane eventually took off.

According to the airport, 20 flights were diverted to Ottawa because of the bad weather but it was only Transat flights that had such big issues.

The airport said staff were on standby with food and water for any plane that requested them, but Transat never did. And when the airport tried to contact Transat to deplane, the airline didn’t respond.

Montreal-based Transat claimed in a statement that the airport was so packed that it couldn’t get loading bridges to the plane to get passengers off, or refill its empty water tank.

Canadian federal authorities have ordered Transat to explain just why they wouldn’t let the passengers get off the plane, CTV News reported.

Switched at birth: DNA test results reveal 28yo man in China not related to his parents – TomoNews

CHINA — A mother in China is struggling to cope with DNA test results that have revealed the child she has raised for 28 years is not her flesh and blood.

The woman, surnamed Zhang, claims as the boy grew up, many of her friends would often comment about how oddly handsome he looked compared to his father, saying he was “too good looking.” In an interview with Kan Kan News, Zhang admits the boy “has big eyes and a high nose bridge” and that “his father is not very good looking.”

The ugly-dad complex continued to bother Zhang’s husband to no end, so much so she claims it eventually led to the couple’s divorce in 2004. Unable to let things go, in 2011, the man convinced them all to take a DNA test, and sure enough, the boy was not theirs, biologically speaking.

Unable to accept the news, the family members took another DNA test in 2016, and the results came back the same. Zhang is now suing for 1.3 million yuan and hopes to find out what happened to her real child, while helping Wang Ye track down his real parents.

In a statement released this week, the hospital says it has launched an investigation, and will accept responsibility for the mistake if it is proven that it was at fault.

Airport trouble: Passenger holding baby punched by not-so-nice French airport worker – TomoNews

NICE, FRANCE — A French airport worker took horrendous customer service to a whole other level when he popped a passenger in the face, never mind that the man was holding a baby.

Air travel is stressful enough as it is, but the passengers of EasyJet Flight 2122 hit the nightmare jackpot when their flight from Nice to London was delayed for over 14 hours, the Washington Post reported.

It was especially frustrating for parents, whose little humans needed food and rest — two things the airport just couldn’t provide.

Frustrated at the lack of information and provisions, the travelers complained to airport staff, who added insult to injury by smirking and doing nothing.

A passenger holding his 9-month-old baby tried to snap a photo of one douchebag member of staff, but his phone was swiftly slapped out of his hand. When the man shoved the worker back in retaliation, the employee lunged forward and socked him in the face.

A photo of the punch soon went viral after it was posted on Twitter by eyewitness Arabella Arkwright.

Both men were taken away by airport security. The passenger eventually made it onto his flight, where he was applauded by fellow travelers.

EasyJet was quick to do damage control by claiming the assailant wasn’t on their payroll, but was employed by the airport’s “special assistance provider.” Still, the airline failed miserably in handling the delay and should be held accountable.

As for the violent employee, he has since been suspended, and is clearly in the wrong industry.

North Korea: Air France jet passed DPRK missile landing site minutes before hit – TomoNews

KANGGYE, NORTH KOREA — Safety concerns have been raised over North Korea’s aggressive missile testing program, after the most recent launch came dangerously close to a passenger plane.

CNN reports that on July 28, an Air France flight to Paris took off from Tokyo carrying more than 300 passengers.

Forty-five minutes later, North Korea test-launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from Jagang Province.

The missile climbed more than 2,000 miles before returning back to Earth. It landed in the Sea of Japan just five to 10 minutes after the Air France flight passed through the same area.

In response to the incident, Air France put out a statement claiming North Korean test zones don’t interfere with their flight paths, adding that they analyze potentially dangerous flyover zones. But experts say global aviation systems may not be able to warn airliners if a missile was in its flight path, much less detect it, according to CBS.

Adjusting commercial flight paths might be one way of addressing the North Korean safety risk, but it will be both expensive and difficult.
